2023 Ford Mustang Coupe Safety and Reliability

The NHTSA review of the Ford Mustang Coupe is glowing: the 2023 model received a full five out of five stars, but the review from the IIHS wasn't perfect. Here, the Mustang scored Good in all crashworthiness categories except the small overlap front driver-side test, where it only managed an Acceptable rating. Still, this is a mostly safe car that should protect occupants well in an accident.

All 2023 Mustang Coupes come standard with a full suite of airbags, including a driver's knee airbag, dual front airbags, and front-seat side-impact airbags. All coupes also get AdvanceTrac stability control, auto high-beam headlights, pre-collision assist with emergency braking, and lane-keep assist. As part of the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite, all Mustangs also benefit from a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert, plus the obligatory rearview camera. Premium models come with rear parking sensors, and both trim levels can be equipped with adaptive cruise control.

The 2023 Ford Mustang was recalled once for a loose bolt in the transmission that could cause the car to roll away, but only automatic models are affected. As for 2022 models, these were recalled for the same transmission issue as well as a misaligned forward-facing camera and a passenger knee airbag that may not deploy properly. Two airbag issues pertained to 2021 models, too.

Ford will back the 2023 Mustang Coupe with a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty, a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and roadside assistance plan, and five years of corrosion cover with no mileage limit.
