2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Review: Your Mom's An Eco-Warrior

Chrysler is in the odd position where it's better known for its minivans than the rest of its product offerings, which from a business perspective might not be such a bad thing, but it's not too glamorous either. Chrysler has made this work to its advantage; the Pacifica range of luxury minivans are one of the most popular choices across America, and for good reason: they drive well, offer lots of space, and they're pretty comfy as well. The hybrid version of the Pacifica offers massive fuel savings, peppier low-down performance thanks to a 3.6-liter V6 and electric motor combo, and the ultimate barbeque talk bragging rights, but at a premium of over $8,000. The Pacifica Hybrid takes on the来yota SiennaandHonda Odysseyand despite a higher asking price, the Pacifica Hybrid package is too good to ignore.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Changes:What’s The Difference vs The 2019 Pacifica Hybrid?

Engine and Transmission

帕西菲卡混合股票其3.6升自然aspirated V6 engine with the rest of the Pacifica family of minivans, albeit tweaked to run on the Atkinson cycle for efficiency and benefiting from the addition of two electric motors connected to a 16kWh lithium-ion battery for a combined output of 260 horsepower. The twin-electric motors channel their torque to the front wheels instantly, which gives the Pacifica Hybrid some serious get up and go; perfect for city and suburban driving and is sorely missed as soon as you step into any traditional minivan. An eFlite electrically continuously variable transmission has been commissioned to manage the extra torque provided by the electric motors and sends a seamless flow of power to the front wheels. Despite lacking the traditional gear shift feel of a regular auto, it makes up for it with its smooth operation.

Handling and Driving Impressions

Most people looking to buy a new minivan will focus on its features, safety tech, and trunk space. How it actually drives won't make much of a difference, as long as it can turn, reverse, and doesn't cause any serious internal damage to the kids in the back when going over a bumpy road. The Pacifica Hybrid goes above and beyond, turning and reversing and offers a truly impressive driving experience; corners are handled with surprising poise, and the light steering feel, perfect for the daily grind, is accurate enough for fast cornering accuracy. Road imperfections are soaked up without complaint, and the overall driving experience can be likened to that of an old-school full-size sedan.

Pacifica Hybrid Gas Mileage

除了很醉人的下等的脓h of torque you get from the electric motors, the hybrid system in the Pacifica is also designed to save you money on gas (who would've thought?), and as far as minivans go, the Pacifica Hybrid is as efficient as they come. In non-hybrid guise, the 2020 Pacifica will manage an EPA estimated 22 mpg on the combined cycle. The Hybrid version will achieve an EPA-estimated 82 MPG equivalent (MPGe), or 30 mpg combined for those who only understand gas-speak which is an incredibly impressive number for a near-on 5,000 pound minivan, but what is even better is the fact that you'll be able to cruise around on all-electric power for 32 miles, making the Pacifica Hybrid a practical all-electric vehicle in the city.

In standard form, you get seating for seven adults, but an extra seat is available on request. In the front, passengers get 41.1 inches of legroom, while taller drivers will be happy with the 40.1 inches of headroom on offer. Second-row occupants get 39 inches of leg space and an impressive 39.6 inches of headroom. All the way in the back, third-row passengers make do with 36.5 inches of legroom and a decent 38.7 inches of headroom, while access to the third-row isn't all that bad either.

Pacifica Hybrid Trunk and Cargo Space

People buy minivans because they offer a lot of space for people and their things. The Pacifica Hybrid has plenty of space for both: behind the third row, you're offered 32.3 cubic feet of space, enough for a disassembled kiddies soccer net and a teenage Golden Retriever. Behind the second row, you get 87.5 cubic feet of space, which is the going rate for vehicles in this class. With all the seats folded flat, the Pacifica Hybrid will grant you 140.5 cubic feet of freedom to herd cats, toddlers, or drunk co-workers into.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are also on offer. Staying connected to the outside world is taken care of via a 4G LTE Wi-Fi router, and Touring L Anniversary models and upwards offer an improved audio experience in the form of a 13-speaker Alpine sound system with 506 watts of amplified power.

Other than that, the Pacifica has proved to be a reliable minivan. The Pacifica is covered by a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty, including roadside assistance, as well as a five-year/unlimited-mile corrosion warranty, a ten-year/150,000-mile battery warranty, and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Pacifica Hybrid Safety

The Chrysler Pacifica is a good choice if you're looking for a safe and modern minivan, and is the only choice if you're looking for a safe, modern hybrid minivan. The NHTSA gave the Pacifica a full five out of five stars on their website, and the IIHS awarded it with their coveted Top Safety Pick award. Standard safety features include ParkSense parking assistance, daytime running lights, and eleven airbags. More advanced features such as adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning are also available.

Verdict:Is The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid A Good Minivan?

The 2020 Chrystler Pacifica occupies a niche corner of the car market: it's a luxury hybrid minivan, and is the only one of its kind at the moment, although Toyota has been spotted testing a Sienna Hybrid. In standard form, the Pacifica is already an excellent offering that presents mid to large-sized families, businesses, and transport companies with a comfortable, capable, and attractive minivan package that is versatile and easy to live with. In hybrid form the Pacifica makes even more sense: you get all the benefits of the gas-powered version which include excellent road comfort, a premium interior and luxury features such as power sliding doors and three-zone climate control, but you also get 32 miles of all-electric driving, and an astounding 30 mpg on a combined driving cycle. The Pacifica doesn't hold any major advantage over its competitors in terms of interior space, but it's highly configurable seating system and overall sense of premium build quality combined with a peerless drivetrain makes it a standout.

What's the Price of the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid?

最便宜的方式得到自己driver's seat of a Pacifica will be through the door of a Touring model, which starts with an MSRP of $39,995. Touring L models go for $42,295, and the 35th Anniversary Touring L increases that price to $44,285. At the top of the pile sits the Limited and 35th Anniversary Limited . The standard Limited model can be yours for $45,845, and the special edition will set you back a cool $46,840. Fully kitted, the 35th Anniversary Limited will cost $51,500. These prices exclude a destination charge of $1,495.

What Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Model Should I Buy?

Firstly, it should be noted that in base form, the Pacifica Hybrid goes for over $8,000 more than its gas-powered counterpart. The Hybrid Touring, starting at $39,995, is only $1,066 cheaper than a fully kitted gas-only Limited model. Once you've accepted the fact that hybrid power is going to cost you extra, we'd suggest that you look at the Hybrid Touring L, which includes the excellent SafetyTec package consisting of blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist with auto-stop. The Touring L also includes niceties such as heated front seats and steering wheel as well as perforated McKinley leather seats. In terms of options, we could be swayed by the $695 Uconnect 4 NAV navigation upgrade. If you've come this far, you might as well look at the Limited model, which adds hands-free power doors and a liftgate as well as a rear-seat infotainment system added third-row storage and premium Nappa leather seats for only $3,550 more. At the end of the day, it depends purely on how many creature comforts you're looking for.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid vs Honda Odyssey

The Honda Odyssey is deeply entrenched in the discourse of the modern-day American suburbanite and remains one of the most popular choices when it comes to living the minivan life. The 2020 Odyssey is exclusively available with gas propulsion in the form of a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine, which produces 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque and sends power to the front wheels via a ten-speed automatic transmission. It's 19/28/22 mpg city/highway/combined fuel consumption figure can't come close to that of the Pacifica Hybrid. Out on the road, the Odyssey feels more like a minivan, and can't match the premium feel of the Pacifica, especially in lower trims, but won't leave you wanting in terms of power delivery and road comfort. The Odyssey is just as safe as the Pacifica, scoring a Top Safety Pick Plus award from the IIHS. The Pacifica Hybrid's starting price puts it in range of the Odyssey Touring, yet the Pacifica still offers better value.

2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid vs Toyota Sienna

The 2020 Toyota Sienna is possibly the only other minivan on the market today that has a slightly aggressive, possibly even sporty look. Note that we're not commenting on actual performance and handling here. The Sienna doesn't stray from the tried and tested minivan recipe: you get a 3.5-liter V6 producing 296 hp and 263 lb-ft of torque, which it sends to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission with optional AWD. Gas mileage is measured at 19/26/21 mpg city/highway/combined, which isn't bad for a heavy minivan, but it is outdone by the Pacifica Hybrid's figure of 30 mpg. The Sienna offers loads of seating arrangements and other handy minivan tricks, but if it's luxury you're after, you should best look at the Chrysler; there are cheap plastics to be found all over the interior of the Sienna, and it lacks polish in general. On the road, it offers a pleasurable driving experience, and its V6 engine offers the most punch for a gas-only car. The Toyota disappoints with a mediocre safety record but provides a massive range of options spread out over a wide price margin. In Hybrid form, the Pacifica has no need to worry.
