The downsizing trend at Mercedes-AMG will have to wait a bit longer for the GLE 63 Coupe, a high-performance mid-size SUV that calls theBMW X6 Mit's rival. Facelifted for the 2024 model year, the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe remains motivated by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that makes 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, and it's boosted by a 48-volt electrical system and Integrated Starter Generator. Capable of reaching 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, the 63 S Coupe is still quite a hooligan, and it now comes with a few styling updates, more standard equipment, and tweaked software for the roll stabilization and air suspension. These are likely the last few years before the V8 GLE 63 is expected to switch to a smaller inline-six hybrid engine,just like the next E63 sedan, making this an SUV worth savoring.

The exact release date for the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is unknown, with the manufacturer only saying it will be coming out at some point in 2023. We expect this to be soon since the model became available in Germany early in March 2023.

As it hasn't been heavily revised, we don't expect a large price increase for the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe. The 2022 GLE 63 S Coupe that is still listed on the brand's website will cost $117,850, so the MSRP of the 2024 version in the USA will probably creep over the $120,000 mark.

Rivals are plentiful, headed by the BMW X6 M that has also been freshly upgraded for the 2024 model year. The more expensive Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT is another one to watch out for, and theAudi RS Q8是the third potent German coupe-SUV in this talented group.

The front fascia, LED daytime running lights, and taillights have been revised for the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe's exterior. It's nothing dramatically removed from the pre-facelift model, but extensive changes weren't needed. If the V8's roar doesn't grab your attention, the aggressive design of this SUV is likely to do it.

The distinctive Panamericana grille with its vertical chrome slats still dominates the front, as does a particularly large three-pointed star. The 63 S comes with new 22-inch forged wheels with a ten-spoke design, but there are bound to be alternatives available when the configurator goes live.

Moving towards the rear, the sloping roofline is still a distinguishing feature of this SUV, giving it an even more hunkered-down look than the regular GLE 63. The quad tailpipes have a square shape that is used for 63 models, and there is a very subtle spoiler on the trunk lid.

Manufaktur Alpine Grey and Twilight Blue metallic are two new colors for the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe, but we assume that existing hues like Lunar Blue, Cirrus Silver, and the premium Manufaktur Cardinal Red will carry over.

Dimensions for the 2024 US-spec Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe haven't been published yet, but the German equivalent has a length of 195 inches, marginally shorter than the 195.3-inch 2022 model sold in the USA. The German version also sports a width of 84.9 inches with the mirrors and a height of 67.7 inches, both identical figures to the 2022 local model. The wheelbase will remain unchanged at 115.6 inches.

The latest curb weight figure for the 2022 variant is 5,390 pounds, a little less than the unladen weight of the 2024 German model's 5,522 lbs. The 2024 derivative sold here should closely match the 2022 model in this aspect.

One of the great V8s of this era continues to do duty here, with the 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine in the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe still with specs of 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. A further 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque come courtesy of the Integrated Starter Generator and 48V mild-hybrid system. This small electric motor has multiple functions, including smoother operation of the stop/start system, boosting, and recuperation.

The AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system with fully variable torque distribution puts all that power down to great effect, and aided by the fast shifts of the nine-sped automatic transmission, this hulk of an SUV will go from 0-60 mph in only 3.7 seconds. Unlike the GLE 53's 155-mph limited top speed, the top speed here is only reached at 174 mph.

All the virtues that applied to this powertrain previously are still true. It rockets the GLE 63 forward with incredible pace, all accompanied by a throaty V8 soundtrack. And, although the Porsche Cayenne has generally set the standard for agility and handling in this segment, a software retune for the GLE 63's AWD system and electronically controlled rear-axle limited-slip differential could close the gap somewhat.

Without changes to the engine, the 2024 GLE 63 S Coupe is expected to return identical gas mileage figures to the 2023 model. That implies 15/19/17 mpg city/highway/combined, and a range of about 382 miles when the 22.5-gallon fuel tank is full.

The latest MBUX infotainment system, along with new colors and additional standard equipment, have been introduced for the interior of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe. MBUX packs in all the connectivity features you could hope for, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with AMG-specific graphics. The expansive dual-screen layout remains. For the GLE 63 S, the MBUX Interior Assistant is newly standard.

The seats inside the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe are multi-contour items in front, and we expect the Nappa leather upholstery to carry over. Bahia Brown/Black and Macchiato Beige/Black are newly introduced color schemes, and trim inlays like High-Gloss Brown Linden wood and Manufaktur Piano Black Flowing Lines can be selected.

A new AMG Performance steering wheel is standard, and adjusting the driving behavior of the vehicle can be done via the AMG Drive Unit buttons with their dedicated displays. An Air Balance Package, a head-up display, and a logo projector with a unique AMG animation are all standard on this range-topping GLE 63 S.

We expect no changes to the standard list of driver aids which will include blind-spot assist, a surround-view camera system, active parking assistance, and attention assist. Another constant should be the available cargo space behind the second row of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe, which stands at a generous 27.2 cubic feet. That can be expanded by folding down the rear seats.
