Porsche 911 GT3 RS Wins Shortest Ever Nurburgring 24 Hours

Porsche is currentlywrapping up developmentof the all-new911 GT3 RS, and it looks like it will once again be one of the very best track cars that you can use on the street. Still, as impressive as this car will be, it's useless compared to true racing cars likethe GT3 R. In collaboration withManthey-Racing, a German tuner that Porsche owns a stake in, the Stuttgart-made racer was dominant at this weekend's Nurburgring 24 Hours, a race that was red-flagged for over 14 hours due to severe weather conditions. The race may have only lasted around nine and a half hours as a result, but the win was made sweeter by the fact that it occurred on the 25th anniversary of Manthey-Racing's time with Porsche.

Car number 911 was fittingly the first to cross the finish line, helping Manthey expand its accomplishment as the most successful team here by notching up its seventh win at the 24-hour race. This was also the 13th victory here for a Porsche racing car, while the Huber Motorsport customer team was also impressive in its win in the Pro-Am class with a 500-horsepower 911.

Vice President of Porsche Motorsport Fritz Enzinger had the following to say about the impressive results: "Congratulations to the Manthey team. The crew did a flawless job, the drivers gave a terrific show at the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 R. I'm also particularly pleased about Huber Motorsport's Pro-Am class win. Our customer teams can be very proud of their achievements. Unfortunately, the strong performance was not always rewarded accordingly, as numerous vehicles had to retire after becoming entangled in other competitors' accidents."

Falken Motorsport's team also came close to glory, narrowly missing out on a podium position in car No. 44 while entry No. 33 achieved ninth position. Huber Motorsport's 911 GT3 R finished in ninth place overall. It was a tough weekend for all teams, but the racing was spectacular when it was actually going on, and Porsche will be glad to add more trophies to the collection.
