In a rare outing.

Modern hypercars have reached levels of performance that are bordering on being dangerous, and they show no signs of slowing down. While the current hypercar scene is still dominated by gas-fed machines, alternative fuel sources are creeping into the scene, and electric cars such as theRimac C_Two, the highly anticipatedTesla Roadster, and the magnificent Lotus Evija are all changing the way we think about the modern hypercar. But there's a third contender in the race, and its fueled by hydrogen.

TheHyperion XP-1supercar, which made its debut last year, has recently made an appearance at the all-virtual CES 2021 show and has officially been spotted cruising the strip of Las Vegas.

The citizens of Las Vegas got quite the show when the Hyperion XP-1 did a few fly-bys past the famous fountains of Bellagio, and the car even made its way to the Nevada desert, possibly to stretch its legs and get some real-world performance figures. Hyperion has been very secretive about this outing, and no official videos of its little road trip have been posted online. It will be interesting to see how the newcomer performs, as it boasts some impressive tech, including a zero-emissions hydrogen powertrain using brand new tech developed by NASA. The company has been making some bold claims, stating that the car will be able to outperform cars such as theBugatti Chiron.

Claimed figures include a zero to sixty sprint time of only 2.2 seconds, a top speed in excess of 221 mph, and an absolutely insane range of 1,016 miles (in theory) thanks to its highly efficient hydrogen fuel cells. It is expected that the Hyperion XP-1 will arrive in dealerships next year, but no word has been given regarding its price tag, and the issue of hydrogen refueling stations remains.
