Toyota gives the SUV added style and better capability in tackling rough terrain.
Toyota is spicing things up with the newSequoiaas it is now offered with the carmaker's Nightshade exterior package and a TRD Off-Road package. The new options for Toyota's three-row SUV come more than a year afterits global debut, and the results suit the vehicle well.
TheNightshade Editionis a staple of Toyota vehicles, but it's not widely available. For the Sequoia, Toyota exclusively offers the Nightshade styling on the SUV's Limited trim.
The upgrade includes the black-out treatment for the 20-inch wheels, grille, mirror caps, badging, and more. This design treatment is perfect for individuals who are not much of a fan of chrome trims.
Aside from the Nightshade treatment, Toyota offers the TRD Off-Road package for the Sequoia's SR5, Limited, and Platinum 4×4 models. Toyota said the TRD Off-Road package is designed to enhance the Sequoia's capability to tackle tough terrain.
It comes with a selectable locking rear differential and a multi-terrain select feature that assists the vehicle in controlling wheel spin. The off-road package also has a downhill assist control and crawl control, which engages low-speed trail cruising speed when the 4WD Low is selected.
The TRD Off-Road also has a multi-terrain monitor to give the driver better visibility when tackling rough terrain. The Toyota Sequoia's ground-view camera technology was praised in JD Power'sUS Tech Experience Index Study.
To further enhance the Sequoia's off-road prowess, Toyota included TRD-tuned components in the Off-Road Package, such as Bilstein monotube shock absorbers, springs, and a red front axle driveshaft. The cabin is then integrated with aluminum pedals as well as a red TRD push-to-start button.
"Our primary design goal for Sequoia was to create a sophisticated yet tough and active lifestyle SUV that looks capable of handling a diversity of big adventure needs," said Toyota Design Studio CALTY president Kevin Hunter. "That holds true whether it's a night out on the town with friends, towing a boat to the lake with family, or taking a more extreme off-road adventure."
No power upgrades were made available with the Toyota Sequoia. As such, it still comes with a twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain that produces 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque.
