2023 Model 3 Safety

特斯拉模型3是一个突出的表现er in crash reviews, earning the best possible five-star safety rating in the NHTSA's testing, although that applies to 2022 models as the 2023 variant hasn't been rated yet. The sedan also earned maximum scores in every IIHS crash test, and was named a 2022 Top Safety Pick+. Essentially, this is one of the safest cars on the road.

2023 Model 3 Key Safety Features

Key safety features in Tesla products fall under the Autopilot suite of driver aids, which includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep assist. Blind-spot monitoring is included on all Model 3s too, but the warning is shown on the central screen, which is acceptable when the "offending" vehicle is on the passenger side, but counter-intuitive when there's a vehicle next to the driver's side of the car. Standard airbags include a pair of knee, a pair of frontal, a pair of side-impact, and two curtain airbags. Autosteer on city streets is a feature that is said to be coming later, but Tesla has been promising this feature for some time now.

For $6,000, the Enhanced Autopilot suite adds navigate on Autopilot, auto lane change, auto park, Summon, and Smart Summon. Most will be more interested in the Full Self-Driving Capability suite. For $15,000, it has everything found in Enhanced Autopilot but also traffic light and stop sign control.

2023 Model 3 Reliability

At the time of writing, the 2023 Tesla Model 3 was subject to three recalls for a taillight that may fail to illuminate, side curtain airbags that may be twisted, and full self-driving software that may cause a crash.

Worryingly, the 2022 Tesla Model 3 has already been recalled ten times. Many of these recalls were related to safety features such as obscured pedestrian warning sounds, a failure of the vehicle's Full Self-Driving (Beta) software to bring the vehicle to a stop at a stop sign, and a seatbelt warning chime that couldn't be heard. Other issues included a problematic defrosting function for the windshield and a missing unit of speed, meaning the driver couldn't tell how fast they were going. The most recent recall was for a seat belt buckle and anchor that was incorrectly reassembled.

The 2021 model was even worse, with 14 recalls, and the 2020 model has 15 to its name. The 2021 model has already amassed over 400 complaints, and the 2022 model has over 440. Problems aren't limited to safety systems, as the 2021 model was recalled for a front suspension lateral link that could separate. It's clear that Tesla hasn't yet been able to consistently deliver a reliable, problem-free vehicle.
