2023 Subaru WRX Sedan Performance

As a performance-focused car, the Subaru WRX is all about the driving experience. It doesn't really have loads of power, with just 271 hp seeing it go from 0-60 mph in around 5.5 seconds, according to independent tests, though it can reach a top speed of 174 mph. However, it gives you torque when you need it, and, combined with a sport-tuned suspension, it is a joy to push into corners and launch out. Unlike many other sporty sedans, it actually comes standard with a manual transmission, and even if you choose to swap that out for the CVT, you get a set of shifter paddles that let you treat it like an eight-speed manual. Naturally, Subaru's acclaimed all-wheel drivetrain plays a big role in the experience, and it even allows you to do some off-road rally driving.

It comes paired with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but you can swap that out for a CVT that includes a set of paddles that let you manually shift between eight simulated gears. Power is sent to an all-wheel drivetrain with a locking center differential that splits power 50/50, or 45/55 with the CVT, between the front and rear, with torque sent to the wheels that need it.

Few performance cars can boast impressive gas mileage, and the Subaru WRX is no exception. Even so, its figures are quite disappointing. With the regular six-speed manual in play, it achieves 19/26/22 mpg across the city/highway/combined cycles. Oddly enough, the CVT is even worse, with just 19/25/21 mpg. The Elantra N, for comparison's sake, manages 22/31/25 mpg with its 276-hp four-cylinder engine.

With a fuel capacity of 16.6 gallons, the WRX sedan can travel between 349 and 365 miles between pit stops.
