New Dodge Charger Coupe Body Leaks With Evidence Of Combustion

The production body of the Charger SRT Daytona Concept has been leaked, and we spy a transmission tunnel...

A little more than a month ago, a rumor emerged claiming that the upcoming Dodge Charger Daytona SRT EVwould have a combustion-powered sibling, and that has now been confirmed by images leaked from a Stellantis factory. The images are courtesy of theDaytona Ownersand come with no supporting information, but there is still a lot that we can glean.

For a start, the body is clearly that of a two-door coupe, and if our eyes aren't playing tricks on us, it appears that this body will feature a hatchback, just as on theelectric concept revealed a year ago. It bears similar body lines to that concept, which we were told at the time was a genuine statement of something real to come.

Looking more closely, one can clearly see that provision has been made for a transmission tunnel and driveline, while the front end has space for an engine (or a frunk for an EV). A recess for a gas cap also confirms our suspicions, but what's curious is that the floor does not appear to have space for a traditional battery pack.

Either the Charger coupe will only be offered as a combustion car, or the electric components will have to be packaged above each axle.

On the roof, it appears that rumors of a full panoramic glass panel have been based on fact. This is expected to be an option.

The appearance of these shells suggests that pre-production prototypes will soon be spotted prowling the streets, which aligns with insider reports that the nextChargerwill arrive in the third quarter of next year. Before then, Dodge will doubtless start letting more information trickle out to the media.

TheHurricane range of inline-sixesis expected to power the combustion Charger, meaning no more V8s. Hopefully, Dodge will find a way of making the engine sound good because Challengers equipped with the straight-sixhave been downright dull听。

The main takeaway is that we're finally getting to see a modern Charger coupe, and it will have gas power. Whether that's enough to retain the loyalty of Hellcat fans remains to be seen.
