2023 Subaru WRX Sedan Safety and Reliability

The Subaru WRX has great safety ratings, despite lacking many of the advanced driver-assistance tech we have come to expect from modern cars. The NHTSA crash tests returned a perfect five-star rating in every category, while the IIHS has given it a score of Good in almost every area, though some trims only get Acceptable for headlights. Last year's model got a Top Safety Pick+ award.

The standard safety features are extremely sparse, with only ABS, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, a rearview camera, and seven airbags included. To get anything more, you have to upgrade to the Limited, which gets you lane change assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic control. The suite is rounded out with lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, pre-collision braking, and reverse automatic braking on the GT.

Though J.D. Power hasn't given the Subaru WRX an official reliability rating, it enjoys the same reputation as the rest of the automaker's lineup. In fact, the only recall issued for the current generation was in 2022 for incorrect information in the owner's manual. The standard Subaru WRX warranty covers bumper-to-bumper issues for three years/36,000 miles, while the powertrain warranty is valid for five years/60,000 miles.
