A sleek, sporty, high-performance luxury crossover may seem like an irrational proposition, but the BMW X6 M is proof that a crossover can be practical and stupidly fun. This is partially thanks to the masterful V8 gas engine resting under the sleek hood, which kicks out 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft. Sent to all four wheels, these outputs are good for a 0-60 mph sprint time of just 3.8 seconds. Of course, it needs the handling dynamics to put all that power to good use, but if anyone knows how to ensure that, it's BMW. Competition is stiff, though, especially with theAudi RS Q8andMercedes-AMG GLE 63 Son the scene, but BMW knows how to meld performance with luxury and comfort with the best of them. Sure, it has a price tag in the six-figure area, but that's nothing unusual for the segment, and it delivers enough value for the money. But, does it really stand above its rivals?
Not much changes for the third-gen BMW in the 2021 model year. The standalone Competition model is replaced by the optional Competition package, and the interior has also seen some changes. You can now expect to find standard SiriusXM with 360L and a one-year all-access subscription, and Android Auto. Items no longer available include the rear-seat entertainment package and night vision with pedestrian detection.

The 2021 BMW X6 M tries to be everything to everyone and, in large part, it succeeds. It's refined and commodious inside, with a respectable trunk that the whole family can use. However, it also has mad levels of power that dare you to put the pedal to the metal to see what it's capable of. While its hefty curb weight shows itself when taking corners at speed, it still comes closer to handling like a sports car than anything this size should. There will be few people you can't overtake on the highway and you'll arrive at work early and in style. Inside, the X6 M SUV is ultra luxurious, living up to its six-figure price tag, and you get oodles of tech as standard. There aren't many customization options, but what few there are cost a bundle.
You won't find a safety rating review of the 2021 BMW X6 M, because cars this expensive simply don't get crash tested. However, the sheer number of advanced safety features that come standard and the reliability history of the brand should put the most neurotic drivers at ease. If you can look past the price of owning one of these beasts, there really is nothing to complain about. It's a quick, practical, and handsome 5-door SUV that runs at the head of the pack, even in the USA, where there are more SUVs to choose from than donut shops on a beat cop's patrol route.
