Set to debut for the 2022 model year, the next-generation BMW M2 is currently undergoing testing and will continue to fill the role as the German automaker's classic high-performance, relatively lightweight coupe. Despite the heavy camouflage, the new M2 is expected to incorporate the brand's latest design language along with the must-have M performance division's flared wheel arches and a quad exhaust system. The rear-wheel-drive layout will continue but there's a good chance all-wheel drive will be optional.
Under the hood, sources indicate the M2 will feature a detuned version of the M3's 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six that will produce around 420 hp in base form. The current model has 365 hp. A new Competition model is also in the pipeline and it'll have at least 450 hp on tap.
Expect the next M2 to arrive sometime later this year.
