Volkswagen Tiguan R Has Landed With 315 HP

It's the fastest Tiguan ever.

Having been on sale since 2016, the car recently received animpressive refresh, and Volkswagen is looking to join theSUV coupe crazewith its upcoming Tiguan X which will go far to diversify the range. But what about those looking for an injection of true performance? Enter the Tiguan R. This hardcore version wasspotted in the wildearlier this year and has now finally been released by Volkswagen.

Sitting at the top of the range, the R is the most powerful Tiguan ever produced, and according to Volkswagen, "combines the dynamic performance of a sports car with the variability of a Sport Utility Vehicle". That sounds pretty good. Under the hood of the Tiguan R lies the latest generation of the EA888 evo4 engine. This turbocharged 2.0-liter engine now produces 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque which gets distributed to all four wheels via VW's 4MOTION with R-Performance Torque Vectoring system and a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox. The R is capable of sprinting to 62 mph in only 4.9 seconds, and will hit a max speed of around 155 mph. Stopping power comes courtesy of an 18-inch brake system with R-branded blue brake calipers.

The exterior features sporty bumpers with aerodynamic elements in high-gloss black (or body color), a gloss black rear diffuser, matte mirror covers, and 20-inch Misano alloy wheels. On the inside, the Tiguan R features premium sport seats with integrated head restraints, a digital cockpit with an integrated lap timer. Optional extras include a DCC chassis with adaptively controlled shock absorbers that lower the car by 10 mm, an Akrapovic titanium exhaust, and 21-inch Estoril alloys.

Prices in Germany start at 56,703 euros ($67,699). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this little beast will bemaking it to the US.
