Singer Reveals TWO New Porsche 911 Creations Inspired By Porsche 934/5

Last year,Singer stopped taking ordersfor its 'Classic' Porsche 964 restoration package so that it could focus on new projects, and one of those new projects has now been revealed in two flavors as the Dynamics & Lightweighting Study - Turbo.

This fresh take on thePorsche 911is inspired by the turbocharged 911 of the mid-1970s, which eventually morphed into the Type 934/5 race car in 1977 and promptly dominated the SCCA Trans American series by winning six of eight races and thus the championship, leaving an indelible mark on the memory of Singer's founder. To create a suitable homage to the iconic racer, Singer has taken the lessons learned from theTurbo Studyrevealed last year and combined them with those of theDynamics & Lightweighting Study.

The result? Over 700 horsepower, a redline over 9,000 rpm, and some of the wildest bodywork we've seen in, well, ever. Delicious.

The process of constructing the Dynamics & Lightweighting Study - Turbo (hereafter referred to as the DLS Turbo) begins like any other 911 restoration. The car is carefully disassembled and the interior removed. The bare chassis is then assessed, cleaned, and reinforced. The modified body that will rest atop the chassis is reproduced in carbon fiber, and customers customize just about everything you can see, which in this case includes the choice of a track-focused DLS Turbo (orange, likely in reference to a certain Jaegermeister livery) or a road-biased one (champagne).

The big difference between the two variants is that the track-focused one gets a high-downforce rear wing with an adjustable upper cross-member and a unique front end with a larger splitter. The road car gets a ducktail rear spoiler and low-drag front fascia, but owners can spec their cars to accept either setup.

Either way, the 911 gains a central front intake paired with a hood vent for improved cooling, while NACA ducts and intakes in the rear fenders fulfill the same purpose for the brakes and turbochargers.

Under the rear engine cover resides a 3.8-liter, four-valve twin-turbochargedflat-sixwith electric wastegates and air-to-water intercooling. It's an evolution of the 3.6-liter motor used in the DLS, but there, it's forced induction-free and generates 500 ponies. In the Turbo Study, where it had already swelled to 3.8 liters, it produced up to 510 hp. Here, it makes "over 700 hp at more than 9,000 rpm."

As usual, a six-speed manual sends power to the rear axle. Track-oriented suspension with bespoke dampers keep the car flat, and carbon-ceramic brakes promise security. These hide behind 19-inch wheels up front and 20-inch wheels at the back, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 or Cup 2 R rubber, both with centerlock fasteners and made of forged magnesium. Widened and vented arches and an exhaust with one exit per rear fender add just enough drama without being gimmicky.

As always, colors and finishes are up to the customer. Pricing is not mentioned, but with the breadth of options on offer, the only limit is your budget.

"As the familiar face of a Porsche 911 morphed into impossibly boxed hips, gaping intakes, and giant double-planed rear wing, I can still remember the shock and the realization that this was the other life of the 911 - the racing car. Since Singer began, I've wanted to return to that moment, collaborate with our clients and celebrate that car - the 934/5."

We think the end product looks splendid, even if only rendered digitally at this point. We hope to cast our gaze on one or both of these Dynamics & Lightweighting - Turbo restorations at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the outfitgenerally makes a big splash. This year's festival takes place from 13-16 July, but if you miss it, Singer will be at Monterey Car Week in August.
