Next-Gen Volkswagen Atlas And Atlas Cross Sport Arriving In 2026

Industry News /4 Comments

This will be the last major update for the combustion-powered Atlas range.

The next-generationVolkswagen Atlas预计to undergo a full redesign for a reveal in 2026, reportsAutomotive News, and this will be the last iteration of the vehicle (and itsAtlas Cross Sportsibling) to be powered by internal combustion. In addition, the publication reports that the next-genTiguan, originally expected to arrive in mid-2024, will now debut in 2025.

These models will all likely be reinvented as electric vehicles towards the end of the decade, and, in the case of the Tiguan, combustion will bow out with a bang as a high-performance model is expected to arrive with the new SUV.

A high-performance Tiguan has existed for a little while now, but not in America. Thankfully, VW confirmed toCarBuzzlast year that it is working to remedy this situation. In addition, we could get asporty take on the Atlasas well. Thereafter, it's unclear what VW's plans for this particular nameplate are.

We know that iconic names like Golf, GTI, and Tiguanwill all live on, but any others could be culled. Volkswagen is looking tointroduce 11 new EVs by 2027, and we suspect one of these could be an Atlas EV with a new name. This new name likely won't adopt the ID naming strategy since VW's entire range will be electric soon enough, and having a unique prefix won't be necessary.

Back to the Tiguan, and in addition to the go-faster version of the SUV, we also expect to be offered arugged Peak Edition variantat some stage in the near future if a recent trademark application is anything to go by. In the interim, our refreshed Tiguan will actually bebased on the second-generation Tayronsold in China. This means we could get both a standard SUV and a so-called coupe variant, possibly also adopting the Cross Sport name. This won't mean less space, however, as the first-gen Tayron was already roughly the same size as the seven-seater Tiguan Allspace.

In summary, theAtlas that was refreshed last monthwill tide us over until 2026, and the Tiguan will be a rebranded model from another country until it, too, is totally redesigned in 2025 for the rest of the decade.
