Lotus Enjoys Most Successful Sales Year In A Decade

This success comes just before the brand is about to launch a fresh product line.

It looks like the Lotus love flew high throughout 2021 with theElise,Exige, andEvoraall providing impressive sales figures right beforethey were discontinued. The boutique brand confirms that with a final figure of 1,710 cars, this is the best result it has seen since 2011. Compared to last year's 1,378 record, this is an annual increase of 24%.

The Lotus Elise proved to be the carmaker's top seller thanks to the generously optioned Sport 240 and Cup 250Final Editions. Throughout the globe, the brand saw impressive gains with the UK increasing its sales by 29%. Belgium proved to be a star performer in the European region with an uptake of 37% but the USA and Canada were the strongest buyers, year-on-year, with a 111% increase in sal.

Lotus continued to break records in the Asia-Pacific region with Japan showing its best sales year since 2015, Australia since 2018, and Hong Kong since 2014. Qatar was only introduced to the brand in 2016 but it managed to achieve its best year yet in 2021. For the first time in almost seven years, Lotus was also introduced to Bahrain, Thailand, and New Zealand markets.

Geoff Dowding, Executive Director, Sales, and Aftersales, Lotus, commented: "Our global retailers have risen to the challenge of giving the Elise, Exige, and Evora the send-off they deserved. It means we're in great shape for 2022 to focus on the all-newLotus Emira, our last petrol-powered sports car and the best of breed."

Late last year, Lotus bid anemotional farewellto its trio of sports cars, which had been sustaining the brand since 1996. Despite these cars being well-loved by fanatics, this will enable the brand to step into the electric sphere with a collection of products including itsfirst-ever crossover. Bridging this transition will be the all-new Lotus Emira of which 5,000 units have been planned for an annual basis.

TheEvora's successoris scheduled for a spring launch and will bring with it the option of asupercharged 3.5-liter V6or AMG-sourced turbocharged 2.0-liter four-pot unit. Not only will this be its first new car in over a decade but it will also officially commence its partnership with Geely as it awaits the all-electric Evija hypercar.
