eBay has revealed the top 10 most expensive car parts to be sold in 2023 thus far, and it makes for interesting reading. The site hasnearly everything a gearhead needsand can be a handy treasure trove for rare or pricey parts, whether you're looking for replacement light clusters or a new engine. And some people are willing to spend seriously big bucks on the online platform.
At the top of the UK list is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 from a 2020BMW M5. With 15,000 miles under its belt, this complete motor sold for £13,500 (approximately $17,700), which sounds like a lot of money, but we're guessing BMW would charge a lot more for a new engine. Perhaps the low-mileage S63B44T3 will go into an M5 that suffered catastrophic engine failure or was wrecked, but we'd like to hope someone has aridiculous engine swap projectin mind.
Interestingly, second place is also occupied by a BMW V8 engine. Like the M5 engine above, this 4.4-liter V8 engine was removed from a regular5 Series(presumably a 550i) and sold for £9,499.99 (around $12,450). eBay UK users clearly have a fondness for German cars, as the third most expensive part was a ceramic brake disc caliper and brake system parts for an AMG GT, at £9,250 (roughly $12,120).
With supply chain issues still affecting the automotive industry, it seems people are having to turn to unusual places to find parts for their pricey chariots. That, or they're just fixing them on the cheap. In fourth place, we have a 2.4-liter engine for a classicPorsche 911, built between 1970-1973. At £9,000 (around $11,800), we're guessing this purchase is part of a larger restoration.
Following closely is a complete 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine for aMaserati Levanteat £8,890.20 ($11,650).
A fully rebuilt transmission for a日产GT-Roccupies the sixth spot, having sold for £8,700 ($11,400). Seventh position is rather unusual, with someone paying £8,493 ($11,130) for a bespoke Schedoni luggage set that was made to fit in a Ferrari 512 TR.
The rest of the list is more conventional and includes a complete LS7 V8 engine and gearbox for a Corvette. With subframes included, the total price for this rare combo - in the UK, at least - came to £8,099 ($10,600). On the other end of the motoring scale is the Nissan Leaf's 40-kilowatt-hour battery pack, which sold for £7,859.99 ($10,300). Rounding out the list is a complete 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine for anAudi Q7at £7,700 ($10,090).
