Callaway Has Big Plans For The C8 Corvette

Callaway's modified C8 Corvette is going to be epic.

Earlier this year,Callaway Carsunveiled theChevrolet Silverado Signature Edition, a supercharged version of the full-size pickup with a boosted output of 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The specialty vehicle manufacturer specializes in building high-performance versions of General Motors cars and is best known for its modified Corvettes like the legendaryCallaway Twin Turbo Corvette.

With this in mind, we've been wondering when the newChevrolet Corvette Stingraywill get the Callaway treatment. Speaking with Autoweek, company founder Reeves Callaway confirmed that Callaway has big plans for the C8 Corvette, but it's going to be a long time before we get to see the fruits of its labor.

According to the company founder, we won't see a Callaway version of the new C8 Corvette until next year. Callaway is currently adding "some form of positive manifold pressure" to four Corvette Stingrays at its shop in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Like most of Callaway's creations, this suggests the modified Corvette will have some kind of forced induction, but Callaway remained tight-lipped about specific details.

"What we have to do from a product point of view is slotted to the product plan in the correct way," said Callaway. "And what that means for us is, we can't compete with any model that General Motors produces, we have to be an additive to whatever model we choose. And whatever model makes the most sense, though we don't want to be in a position where people have to choose between a Callaway and a General Motors standard product, we want them to always think of the standard product as enhanced by Callaway's approach. So generally, we choose the top performing model and do something to it."

In stock form, the Corvette Stingray's naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 generates 495 hp. Slotting above the Stingray will be thenew Z06据报道,由5.5升naturally aspirated flat-plane-crank V8 with over 600 horsepower. Topping the range will be the new ZR1, which is expected to use a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 generating up to 850 hp. We're expecting Callaway's tuned C8 Corvette to have at least 600 hp on tap.

While we wait for Callaway to extract more power from the Corvette Stingray, the tuner already sells custom wheels for the mid-engine sports car and will soon launch an aero package that adds rear wing and front spoilers.
