1,800-HP Scion FRS Breaks Six-Second Quarter-Mile

TheScion FRSis one of the best sports cars of the past decade, offering an affordable and easy-to-drive package for newcomers and seasoned gearheads alike. While fanspatiently await the revealof the new Toyota 86 (the FRS shares its DNA with the first-generation 86 and Subaru BRZ), the aftermarket scene for the first gen car continues to boom. The FRS, 86, and BRZ are such versatile platforms, and it's nothing special to see track-prepped versions sitting next to insanesupercharged monstersat a car meet.

Sometimes even a common engine swap can be interesting, especially when the end result is 1,800 horsepower. And here we get to witness a 2JZ-powered FRS blasting down the strip with its two front wheels in the air.

Brady from Pure Automotive introduces the car and explains that after six years of racing this vehicle, they finally cracked a six-second quarter-mile time. How was that accomplished? With a ton of money and time of course. This FRS has had its heart ripped out and replaced with a turbocharged 2JZ engine out of an A80Toyota Supra. The car runs a Motec engine management system and drives the rear wheels via a turbo 400 transmission and a nine-inch rear solid axle. The turbocharger on this beast is a Precision Pro Mod 88-mm unit mated with a 3.2-liter stroker billet block and fully forged internals. Brady calls it "a basic setup", and claims a wheel horsepower figure of around 1,800 hp.
