2022 Nikola Badger

The Nikola Badger is a fuel-cell electric truck with a bold appearance and the numbers that suggest it will be able to provide the Tesla Cybertruck with a stern test. According to the startup, the Badger will produce peak outputs of 906 horsepower and 980 lb-ft of torque, along with a continuous output of 455 hp. These numbers should provide the truck with the ability to hit 60 mph in around three seconds to go along with an 8,000-pound towing capacity.

A 600-mile range has been claimed, split between 300 miles from the 120 kW fuel cell and 300 miles from the battery. Power will be directed to all corners via a 4x4 independent-wheel-drive (IWD) system. Size-wise, the futuristic-looking Badger measures 231.9 inches in length, 85.8 inches in width, and 73.6 inches in height, making it longer and taller than the Rivian R1T.

Sadly, the Nikola Badger may never see the light of day. Towards the end of 2020, Nikola refunded customer deposits for the Badger pickup following some troubling claims leveled against the company, and the embattled startup has since faced an early termination of its partnership with GM. If Nikola can get back on track and actually get Badgers into showrooms, it would be a formidable competitor, but right now, there’s no telling how things will pan out.
