Like so many prestigious Italian sedans before it, the 2021 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo offers grand gestures of style and performance, but that doesn't exempt it from shortcomings. The most notable is its build quality, and a slight disadvantage in terms of overall performance. In hardcore 4-door Trofeo form, the sixth-generation Quattroporte is powered by a beautiful sounding 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 580 horsepower and 524 lb-ft of torque. For 2021, the Quattroporte Trofeo benefits from an improved infotainment system, but is that enough to fend off competitors such as theBMW 7 SeriesandAudi A8?
The Trofeo is a new addition to the Quattroporte sedan lineup for the 2021 model year. It's the fastest and priciest model, and is reviewed separately from its less powerful siblings. The Trofeo is dominated by its 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 580 hp, allowing the sedan to reach a top speed of over 200 mph. It also comes with sportier aesthetic touches like 21-inch wheels and, like lesser Quattroportes, introduces the brand's latest infotainment interface with a 10.1-inch touchscreen.

The 2021 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo is a mixed bag of treats. As a luxury vehicle, it comports itself well, but competitors such as the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class will do a better job of wafting you along in pure comfort. The Germans also offer a more refined and well-built interior, but that's where the negatives stop. This Maserati is the more enjoyable car to drive on the road, and its Ferrari-developed V8 engine sounds glorious at full tilt. Yes, it might not be as fast as the rest of the pack, but it's no slouch, and these days, it's rare to find a car of this size that actually thrills the senses. We appreciate the new and improved infotainment system, and the overall level of standard features is solid too. The safety rating and reliability reviews of the 2021 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo might not be as stellar as some other competitors, but it's good enough for its class and price tag. If you want to arrive in style and comfort but also like a bit of spice in your life, then skip out on the classic choices and go for a ride in a Quattroporte Trofeo.
If we ever had the pleasure and money to buy one of these exotic land yachts, we'd go for a black one with the 21-inch Dark Forged Atlante wheels for an extra $400. Inside, we'd opt for the Cuoio/Nero leather upholstery and add the $2,500 Bowers and Wilkins sound system and four-zone automatic climate control. The 2021 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo sedan's price in this configuration comes to $155,100. That's substantially more than the $103,000 asking price of the BMW 750i xDrive, but its unique character makes it worth it.
