Ultra-Rare Fox Body Mustang Will Sell For Supercar Money

As it turns out, people are willing to spend big for the car that they love.

If recent car auction prices have taught us anything, it's thatpeople are willing to splash out incredible amounts of moneyfor the one particular model that tickles their fancy. This 1993 Ford Mustang Saleen SC Convertible appears to be tickling many fancies, as its almost $200,000 current bid is more than double the car's Concours condition value.

Exceedingly rare doesn't even begin to describe this car. Saleen sold five SCs in 1993, only three of which were convertibles. The 1993 model year was also the last year for thethird-generation "Fox Body" Mustangs, making this car even more special. The seller bought theMustangnew in 1993 for $48,585, and it has remained with the same person since.

It's possible to buy many of the Saleen parts and doll up a normal Fox Body Mustang, but it'd be hard to recreate this exact car. It's got an optional Saleen spyder package, which includes the awesome light bar and a tonneau cover over the rear seats.

Saleen modified the Mustang's 5.0-liter V8, adding a Vortech supercharger, new headers, and an upgraded exhaust. The car also comes with a Tremec five-speed transmission and rear-wheel drive with a limited-slip differential. The blower was an option for the car and boosted the engine to 450 horsepower.

The underside of the car got an overhaul as well. Saleen added strut tower and chassis bracing and Racecraft subframe connectors. The seller replaced the car's original Racecraft dampers with Koni units, while it wears build number 03 on the front bumper cover as well, noting its place in the extremely limited Saleen production run.

The car's $203,000 current bid price reflects the craziness going on everywhere in the auto markets right now. We found a 1993 Ford Mustang Saleen SC in Concours condition for just over $90,000, which this car is not. That said, outside of some seat wear and dirt, the Mustang looks to be in great shape, and there are at least a few bidders who feel that it's six figures great.

If a $200,000 Mustang isn't your thing, but you still love Saleen,you can now invest in the company. Anyone can shell out a minimum of $500 to get in on the action, but you can't drive around blasting Twisted Sister in an investment.
