This Porsche 935 Is Hiding A High-Voltage Secret

Bisimoto ditched this classic racing Porsche's flat-six in favor of something entirely different.

With the arrival of the long-awaitedTaycan(and the promise of more to come), Porsche has finally entered the age of electric vehicles. That inherently means departing with its extensive back-catalog of fire-breathing, internal-combustion performance machines as it forges a new path into the future of wheeled transportation. But one tuning shop has stepped in to bridge that particular gap.

That tuner isBisimoto, a California-based customizer that's no stranger to tuning Porsches. But its latest project adopts a very different approach, converting the legendary and iconicPorsche 935into a high-output, battery-powered electric racer for the road.

The 935, for those unfamiliar, was a slant-nosed, wide-body version of the 930-generation 911 Turbo that Porsche developed for sports-car racing – winning (among numerous other races) the 24 Hours of Le Mans outright in 1979, and inspiring amodern recreationbased on the 991-gen GT2 RS.

Rather than gutting one of those original racers, Bisimoto started with a more common classic911, fitted with a K3 body kit from Kremer Racing – the same company that built many road- and race-spec 935s on Porsche's behalf back in the day. Only Bisimoto ditched the boxer six in favor of an electric motor.

The electric powertrain produces an impressive 637 horsepower, backed by an array of twelve LG Chem batteries split up between the front and back for a combined 32-kWh capacity.

To punctuate its unconventional powertrain, Bisimoto gave its 935 K3V a dark gray and hot pink paintjob with matching eight-piece Brixton Forged turbofan wheels. It also fitted a full roll cage inside, and hid the charging port underneath the fuel filler cap to keep it looking old-school despite the decidedly modern source of its motivation. An authentic 935 it is not, but as far as electric retrofits go, it's a pretty awesome conversion, if you ask us.
