The Names Of Cadillac's Electric Cars Have Been Found

A new chapter in Cadillac's history begins next month with the unveiling of theLyriqconcept previewing Cadillac's first-ever electric vehicle. The Lyriq will be one of five fully electric cars Cadillac will launch within the next few years to cover a broad range of segments. All Cadillac EVs will ditch the current "CT#" and "XT#" naming conventions in favor ofnames that end in "iq."After the Lyriq electric crossover goes on sale, Cadillac will launch a flagship electric sedan called the Celestiq with a price tag of over $200,000.

Other model names in Cadillac's new EV family have been kept under wraps, but trademark filings have potentially revealed them early.

As discovered by Motor Trend, Cadillac has submitted trademark filings for the "Optiq" and "Symboliq" names, as well as "Cadillac Optiq" "Cadillac Symboliq" with the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property. Both names were registered on July 22 as "motorized land vehicles, namely automobiles." Potentially, these could be the names of two more Cadillac electric vehicles since they also follow the new "iq" EV naming structure.

Joining the Lyriq and Celestiq EVs will be a smaller crossover similar in size to theCadillac XT4, a larger three-row crossover around the same size as theCadillac XT6, and a full-size electric three-row luxury SUV that will essentially be an electric version of the Cadillac Escalade.
