The Iconic Ford Taurus Is Making A Comeback

Industry News /24 Comments

The Taurus has arrived as a rebadged version of China's Mondeo.

一个fter 34 years and eight million units, Fordclosed the chapter on the once-ubiquitousTaurus. With models like the Escape and Explorer cannibalizing sales, the Blue Oval decided to suspend the sale of passenger cars, leaving theMustang作为唯一non-truck / SUV选项。但在其它3月kets, there's still a business case for the traditional three-box sedan.

Ford Middle East has announced the imminent arrival of the new Taurus sedan and, if you think it looks familiar, you'd be correct. Despite the nomenclature, the newcomer is, essentially, a rebadged version of theChina-only Ford Mondeo. Like its differently-badged twin, the new Taurus is a handsome-looking car.

一个striking front end features the en vogue split headlight design that works especially well when paired with the intricately detailed grille. Round back, you'll find a striking similarity to the Mustang Mach-E; the neatly integrated rear spoiler sits just above a fashionable light bar.

Here in the States, the SUV reigns supreme. As such, a new sedan is a rather puzzling introduction to the range. Interestingly, the Taurus enjoys great popularity in the Middle East - it's the brand's best-selling vehicle in the region. The sales figures reflect this; in Saudi Arabia, sales increased by 73% while Kuwait saw an incredible 125% jump in year-on-year growth.

Its popularity is not surprising, with plenty of standard features up for grabs. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot intervention, and collision mitigation are standard, along with wireless charging. Tech lovers will appreciate the 13.2-inch centrally-mounted screen with Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Aside from the 2.0-liter Ecoboost engine mated to an eight-speed auto box, Ford hasn't detailed additional powertrain options. Buyers will be able to select from three wheel size options, as well as a panoramic sunroof.

一个head of its introduction, Ford Middle East has put the new Taurus through its paces. The hot weather associated with the region places high demands on vehicles and the Blue Oval has ensured the newcomer can cope. "Our testing ensures Taurus' engine, transmission, driveline- and cooling systems can handle the demands of the region," said Ziyad Dallalah, Product Development General Manager.

Like its Mondeo-badged sibling, the new Taurus is built in China. Sedan lovers in the USA shouldn't get their hopes up, though. It's very unlikely that the nameplate will make a return to the United States - and you have the rise of the crossover to thank for that. It's not just happening here, either. In Europe, the three-door Fiesta hasreached the end of the road; yet another nail in the Ford passenger car casket. In 2021, the European Mondeo was alsosent to the scrapheapin the sky.
