Stellantis Finalizes Major EV Battery Deal With Element 25

Stellantis has announced it has finalized a five-year agreement with Australian mining company Element 25 that will secure the supply of high-purity manganese sulfate monohydrate for electric vehicle batteries. The world'sthird-largest automakerin terms of sales, owner of the Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo brands, is now in a solid position to proceed with its EV plans just as rival automakers are preparing for major global demand for battery electrics in the coming years.

Manganese is a core stabilizing agreement in a battery's cathode for nickel-cobalt chemistries. A total of 49,604 tons from Element 25's operation in western Australia will get underway in 2026. The agreement also has the option to extend the supply and total volumes.

Element 25 will process the material at a new facility located in the US. For its part, Stellantis is making an undisclosed equity investment in the mining company.

"Stellantis' support for Element 25's high-purity battery-grade manganese sulfate project is a fantastic endorsement by one of the world's largest automakers and validates our plans to become a globally significant long-term supplier of battery materials to meet growing global demand," said Just Brown, Element 25's managing director. "We are fully aligned with Stellantis' decarbonization and electrification goals, which represent some of the most ambitious in the industry, and have committed to reaching agreed net zero carbon emission goals under this deal."
