New Mercedes-Benz CLE Coming As A Bigger C-Class

Industry News /3 Comments

Looks like Mercedes' product lineup is about to get even more confusing.

Mercedes' current model lineup is convoluted, to say the least. From four-door coupes to hot hatchbacks and coupe crossovers, the German automaker has filled just about every niche in the automotive spectrum. Everything other than luxury pickups, that is, since Mercedes' attempt to create a new pickup segment didn't go too well with the launch of the ill-fated X-Class.

According to a report by Autoblog.it, Mercedes is planning to add yet another model to its product portfolio just to make things more confusing. Allegedly, Mercedes is plotting a new CLE model that will slot in between theC-ClassandE-Class.

Being a CL model, the CLE will have a coupe-style sloping roofline and reportedly measure 190 inches long. As well as a coupe-style sedan, the Mercedes CLE will be sold in coupe, convertible, and shooting brake wagon body styles to cater for different niches.

According to the report, these new products are to replace the currentC-Class Coupe, C-Class Cabriolet,E-Class Coupe, and E-Class Convertible models. The Mercedes CLE will reportedly ride on the automaker's MLA platform and be offered with all-wheel-drive or rear-wheel drive configurations.

In addition, the CLE is reported to utilize a new mild-hybrid 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. The report didn't offer a timeline of when the Mercedes CLE will launch, however. With Mercedes' planning to expand an EV onslaught, it's safe to say its product lineup will become increasingly crowded.

To expand its EQ family, Mercedes is planning to launch the production version of the Vision EQS Sedan, as well as the EQA and EQB crossovers and the EQE, which will be the electric equivalent of the E-Class. Recent spy shots have also shown Mercedes is developing another new electric SUV, but it isn't clear yet if it's a new version of the slow-selling EQC, or an SUV version of the EQE.
