梅塞德斯-奔驰Adds MBUX System To More New Models

Interior /Comments

This is a win for Benz and AMG models.

It was back in 2018 when we first learned that Mercedes would offer an impressive new infotainment system calledMBUX on all its new models. However, thanks to a number of models being mid-cycle and therefore uneconomical to upgrade, we've had to wait some time for most of Mercedes' offering to get the update. The newCLS, however will be among those that will feature the new system, on both Benz and AMG variants.

This means a pair of 12.3-inch digital displays will reside beside each other in the cabin, providing what Mercedes calls a "widescreen" effect. The screen behind the wheel will relay the usual driver info while the one on the right handles infotainment.

MBUX, or Mercedes-Benz User Experience systems boast navigation, smartphone integration and, critically, a far more user-friendly interface than the woeful COMAND system of old. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the system will also be able to learn your preferences and streamline information and suggestions that are pertinent to your habits. It also boasts augmented reality software that allows the system to superimpose helpful navigation and traffic information that is relevant to your surroundings directly onto the screen.

This update will make its way to 2021 CLS models and is certainly a welcome improvement. Both theAMG variantof the CLS and theregular modelare outstanding vehicles, but the outdated infotainment system was always a thorn in the side of any modern Merc product. Now, we have a fix.

The new CLS gains more than just a flashy infotainment system, though. Active Brake Assist, Active Speed Limit Assist, and a number of other advanced driver aids make their way to the new model too. As good as the new CLS is shaping up to be, it will still have to contend with the likes of the phenomenal newAudi A7, a car that we found very little fault with. Nevertheless, for many, the infotainment system was one of the very few items that held Mercedes back from fully capitalizing on what are otherwise brilliant cars, and this update could help change brand perception and attract more buyers.
