LEAKED: Cadillac Optiq Breaks Cover With Lyriq-Inspired Styling

Leaked /4 Comments

The Optiq blends Lyriq styling cues with more traditional Cadillac touches.

Cadillac's all-electric Optiq SUV has leaked in China ahead of its reveal, giving us our first look at the brand's second-ever battery-powered crossover.

It's clear to see that the Optiq takes inspiration from the largerLyriq. Up front, we can see the blanked-off grille, along with contemporary L-shaped headlights which cascade down into the bumper. Visually aggressive, the front fascia features faux air vents and prominent, black-painted cladding on the lower parts.

The angular SUV has a more traditional shape than the svelte Lyriq, and we can also see traces of the XT5 and XT6 SUVs in the side profile. Flush-fitting door handles add some modernity to the conventional side design and should preserve that all-important electric range.

Black wheel arch cladding lends the Optiq some rugged flair, while a hockey stick-shaped chrome flourish on the lower edge of the doors adds some flair.

The rear is a touch underwhelming and seems to be a juxtaposition of traditional and modern Cadillac design elements. Sited on either side of the rear windscreen are slim lighting elements, much like you'd find on the Lyriq or the ultra-luxury Celestiq.

They sit at odds with the generic, almost droopy taillights and the other styling elements. Overall, there's a striking similarity to the Chevrolet Blazer EVthat was revealed last year, and we wouldn't be surprised to find the two share a lot of parts, such as the Ultium platform.

Statistics from China's Ministry of Information Technology (MIIT), from whom the leak originated, claim the Optiq is larger than the ICE-poweredCadillac XT5, but not by much. At 189.8 inches long, 64.6 in tall, and 75.3 in wide, it's just 0.3 in lengthier than the XT5. The Optiq's wheelbase measures 116.3 in, shorter than the Blazer EV.

Two versions are expected. Both models will feature a single electric motor with varying outputs. The base Optiq will reportedly produce 201 horsepower, while a more powerful version with around 241 hp will also be offered. While there's no word on the battery size and charging capabilities, the electric Caddy uses a lithium-ion battery pack sourced from SAIC and CATL.

We first caught wind of the Optiq when last year, trademarkfilings for several Cadillac modelswere discovered. Among them was Optiq, but also Symboliq, which suggests we may see a smaller Cadillac-branded electric SUV in the future. The Optiq will be assembled in China at the SAIC plant in Wuhan.

As for pricing, the Optiq will be cheaper than the Lyriq. Recently, Cadillac was forced to cut the Lyriq's pricing in Chinato remain competitive. As such, we can expect Optiq to retail around the $40,000 mark.

An American launch isn't confirmed just yet, but may follow suit.
