The EPA-estimated figures are better than predicted but still fall short of main rivals.
Having revealed itsfull specs and pricinga few days ago, Kia has officially revealed the EPA-estimated range for theEV9. The three-row electric SUV's range figures exceed initial expectations, but they still fall short of its chief rival, the Tesla Model X.
The Light Long Range RWD gets an EPA rating of 304 miles on 19-inch wheels, slightly surpassing Kia's我nitial target of 300 miles. The EV9 Wind and Land dual-motor AWD variants offer an EPA-estimated range of 280 miles (up from initial 270 and 254 miles estimates, respectively), and the GT-Line achieves 270 miles (up from 243 miles). The entry-level Light RWD (with a smaller battery pack) provides 230 miles on 19-inch wheels.
The Kia EV9 features a 99.8-kWh battery pack in its four trim levels, offering versatility to cater to various customer preferences. The base Light RWD has a smaller 76.1-kWh battery back. The diverse powertrain options aim to satisfy both range and performance needs.
In comparison, the lowest possible range you can get with theModel X我s 311 miles when configured in Tri-Motor Plaid spec with 22-inch wheels. The Dual-Motor on 20s boasts a whopping 348 miles on a single charge. While the Tesla has a clear upper hand in terms of juice on a full charge, the EV9 has an advantage over the Model X in terms of charging.
The Korean EV has an 800-volt electrical architecture for ultrafast charging at high-speed DC chargers. It can charge from 10% to 80% in under 25 minutes when connected to a charger capable of a maximum DC charging speed of 236 kW.
American Kia dealers are expected to have the EV9 in their showrooms within the final quarter. Prices range from $54,900 for the base Light RWD to $73,900 for the top-spec GT-Line AWD (excluding $1,496 destination and handling fees). Reservations will open on October 16, requiring a $750 fully refundable deposit.
Meanwhile, the EV9 joins the EV6 in Kia's US lineup. The arrival of the EV5 and therecently unveiled smaller electric modelsstateside remains unconfirmed.
