Hyundai Caught Testing New Tesla Fighter

Last month, Hyundai outlined plans toexpand its electrified lineupto ten vehicles by the end of 2022. These will include two fully electric models sold under the Korean automaker's new Ioniq sub-brand. Our spies have caught Hyundai testing a prototype of the Ioniq 5, which will take the form of a compact electric crossover inspired by theretro-styled 45 Concept.

While the prototype is covered up, production headlights and taillights have been fitted with a similar angular design as seen on the concept. As expected, the design of the production model looks toned down compared to the radical-looking concept, with less sharp edges and a more gently sloping roofline.

However, the production car's silhouette looks similar to the concept and design cues such as the tailgate spoiler have been retained. Even the concept's intricate alloy wheel design has carried over. We're confident that Hyundai is onto another winner after wowing us with redesigned versions of theSonataandTucson.

Technical specifications are still unknown, but reports claim the battery pack will offer a range of around 280 miles and support ultra-fast charging stations that will charge the battery up to 80 percent in 15 minutes.
