China's GAC Teases 4-Door Luxury Hypercar With 1.9-Second 0-60 Time

Teaser /5 Comments

The car is set to make an appearance at the Guangzhou Auto Show this year.

China is set to produce a new hypercar under its GAC automotive group. You'd be forgiven for not having heard of the group, but the Chinese automaker has been attempting toland on American shoresfor some time now.Unlike Geely, another Chinese company with anever-growing American presence, GAC hasn't yet made it across the Pacific.

GAC will call its new hypercar the Aion, and it'll be part of GAC's new Hyper brand, which the company announced in September this year. The company has said the four-door hypercar will be built on its multi-faceted all-electric AEP 3.0 platform.

至于汽车本身,information is scarce. Obviously, it'll have butterfly doors at the front, which will certainly set it apart. We struggle to think of anything with four doors - two of them being butterfly. TheKoenigsegg Gemeracomes to mind, though it has dihedral doors.

Some loose specs have been offered up ahead of the car's first appearance at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The company claims two configurations will be available for order, likely based on the same hardware. The first will be a "base" model capable of a claimed 0-60 time of 2.3 seconds. This will cost roughly $184,767 USD, according to the current exchange rates.

The second will be a top-of-the-line trim, predictably. This one will be called the Hyper GT Ultimate and will hit a claimed 1.9-second 0-60 sprint. This one will also be more expensive, at an estimated $242,237. Power levels haven't been specified yet, but to hit either of these 0-60 times, we're betting on a triple or quad motor setup with more than 700 horsepower.

GAC is already working on another two-door high-powered hypercar, the 1,200-horsepowerHyper SSR(pictured below). As for the car's debut, a hard date isn't clear. Chinese media claim the car will "debut" at the Guangzhou Auto Show on December 30, but these sketches suggest that will merely be the car's first appearance. We're betting on a late 2023 debut, with no word on the market outside China just yet.
