BMW 5 Series LWB With Massive Theatre Screen Only Going To China

Luxury /6 Comments

With more space in the rear, passengers can stretch out and watch something on the massive Theater Screen.

Earlier this year, BMW introduced the new5 Seriesand all-electrici5, the eighth generation of the world's favorite executive sedan. While this vehicle will be sold in most countries around the globe, it seems China will be getting a market-specific model with a longer wheelbase, an emphasis on rear-seat comfort, and slightly different exterior styling.

一个t first glance, the China-specific 5 Series and i5 look identical to the car sold in America - but look closer, and you'll note a few differences. The most obvious change is at the rear, where the rear quarter panel and trunk section have been elongated to accommodate the larger second row.

While some Chinese-market long-wheelbase sedanslook awkward, the new 5 Series is fetching in LWB guise. It appears more elegant and graceful, with tasteful lines flowing into the trunk area. There's a touch of Alfa Romeo in the rear, which is interesting given the brand'sties to Italian design.

一个unique touch not seen on the global 5 Series is the white illuminated '5' motif found on the C-pillar. Set into a chromed piece of trim (which helps disguise the added length), this classy touch lets road users know you're traveling in the back of BMW's latest luxury sedan. On the i5, the illuminated '5' glows blue and pulses gently while the vehicle is charging.

BMW hasn't shared any images of the rear fascia, but the automaker notes the 5 Series/i5 LWB benefit from a chrome strip that separates the taillights. The design of the cluster itself hasn't changed at all.

The interior of China's 5 Series Sedan sets it apart from other models. Naturally, more legroom allows occupants to stretch out comfortably - but that's not the main drawcard. BMW offers the 5 Series with the impressive 31-inchBMW Theatre Screenfor rear passengers.

Rear passengers will be treated to this widescreen display with 8K resolution and 5G connectivity. While on the move, tired tycoons can catch up on the news, watch a movie, or - in America, at least -watch some sports. The powerful Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System provides sound. Other high-end touches include duo-tone, quilted leather seats, i5/5 Series logos embossed into the headrests, and four-zone climate control.

The dashboard is the same as in a regular 5 Series. It's sublime, boasting modern design and classy detailing, such as the Crafted Clarity glass inlays, which spruce up the cabin. The passenger side benefits from Titanium Bronze inlays, a model-specific touch that should appeal to Chinese tastes.

The 5 Series/i5 LWB models will be produced at the Dadong plant in Shenyang by the BMW Brilliance Automotive joint venture. BMW offers several long-wheelbase models in China, including the lengthy BMW X5 Liand 3 Series LWB.
