American BMW 7 Series Buyers Can Now Watch Sports On The Massive Rear Theater Screen

Technology /5 Comments

Sit back, relax, and enjoy some competitive action live from the comfort of your luxury limo.

Earlier this year, BMWannounced a partnership with the German Bundesligathat would allow7 Seriesowners to stream soccer on the vehicle's Curved Display on the dash. Now, the automaker has rolled out the next update, enabling customers to relax in the rear compartment and watch matches on the impressive 31.3-inchBMW Theater Screen. Best of all, this update unlocks access for American customers.

Occupants can access Bundesliga content via the in-car app and enjoy live content, match data, or even highlights - all from the comfort of the rear bench. While on the move, the front-row Curved Display is unable to stream Bundesliga content for safety reasons. That doesn't affect passengers in the rear, as the Theater Screen still works when the vehicle is driving. An onboard 5G-enabled antenna provides strong and reliable streaming speeds.

BMW says the service will be made available in the USA, meaning soccer-crazed BMW drivers can stream content wherever they are. The pilot will also roll out to other regions, including Belgium, France, Korea, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.

And it won't be limited to the 7 Series luxury sedan, either. BMW claims it will be made available in the electric iX SUV (produced from March 2023) andthe American-made X5, X6, and X7 vehicles manufactured from April 2023. The idea behind the project is to improve BMW's in-car streaming capabilities. In the future, it's possible that the automaker will offer clients additional sports content via a similar application.

Hopefully, the manufacturer will strike a deal with US-based sporting associations like the NFL, MLB, and NBA, providing local customers access to America's favorite pastimes.

But if watching sports is of little interest to you, the 7 Series also boasts built-in Amazon Fire TV. This allows occupants in the rear to enjoy a selection of TV shows, movies, and music with ease. To create a truly special ambiance, the rear cabin window blinds can be closed, immersing occupants in a plush, mobile movie theater on wheels.

Thanks to HD viewing quality and the powerful Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, it might just be better than watching television from the comfort of your home.

"In Theatre Mode, the rear of the interior is transformed into a private cinema lounge," said BMW's Frank Weber at the launch of the feature. "With the 31-inch display, 5G connectivity, 8K resolution, surround sound, and individual streaming program, an unprecedented experience is created that sets new standards for in-car entertainment."
