The countdown has begun.

Since theMercedes E-Class Sedanand wagon facelift broke cover back in March, we knew it was only a matter of time before its more stylishE-Class CoupeandE-Class Convertiblesiblings would follow. Prototypes of both models have been spied for over a year now, but Mercedes has finally confirmed the covers will come off the new 2021 E-Class Coupe and Convertible facelifts on May 27 in an online event - that's just over a week away.

According to Mercedes, the new E-Class Convertible "combines everyday practicality, exemplary safety and superior travel comfort with a sporty, elegant design." To give the Cabriolet a sleeker look, Mercedes has made the front end "more dynamic" and added "flatter" LED headlights and a diamond grille as standard.

The taillights will also be redesigned to match the design of the Mercedes CLA. Thanks to a new electrified engine with EQ boost technology, the 2021 E-Class Cabriolet will be "more powerful and efficient than ever before."

While the styling changes will be subtle, both models will benefit from a "thoroughly upgraded interior" with a new MBUX infotainment system, the latest advanced driver assistance and safety technology, and a new hi-tech steering wheel with capacitive Touch Control. Like the Sedan version, the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system will be displayed on 10.25-inch screens as standard, with the option to upgrade to larger 12.3-inch screens for a premium.

Mercedes has confirmed the 2021 E-Class Coupe will be showcased in its AMG E53 specification, which will be powered by an electrified 3.0-liter inline-six turbo engine producing 429 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque.

An EQ Boost starter-generator will also provide an additional 21 hp for a short time as well as up to an additional 184 lb-ft of torque, and a less powerful version of this setup will be available detuned to 362 hp in the E450. Other engine options will include a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with an integrated starter generator and a 48-volt system producing 268 hp with an extra 20 hp available with EQ boost.
