2023 X1 Safety

The 2023 BMW X1's safety has not been evaluated in the US by the NHTSA or IIHS yet. It's based on a similar platform as before, so we expect that it will at least match the overall five-star NHTSA crash-test rating of the previous car. The previous car also received the IIHS's top Good ratings for all the major tests, a feat we expect the new X1 to equal.

2023 X1 Key Safety Features

The standard safety features include the usual ABS, stability control, tire-pressure monitoring, and backup camera fitted to all new cars. The X1 also has eight airbags. In terms of driver-assistance features, a fair number are standard, and these include forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, speed-limit information, lane-departure warning, automatic LED headlights with auto high beams and cornering lights, rain-sensing wipers, hill-descent control, and parking sensors front and rear. Auto-dimming for all three mirrors is optional, but only as part of the Convenience or Premium packages. The latter package is also the only way to get the surround-view camera, the head-up display, parking sensors with automatic braking, semi-autonomous parking, a garage-door opener, and a smartphone-linked anti-theft recorder, as none of these can be specified separately. The Active Driving Assistant Pro package adds an evasion aid, emergency stop, lane keep, steering assist, and a stop & go function to the adaptive cruise control.
