This Immaculate BMW M1 Will Sell For A Fortune

For Sale /8 Comments

It already has a current high bid of over $400,000.

With a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 627 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, theBMW M5 CSis BMW's most powerful production car ever - but it's not a supercar. In fact, BMW has only built one true supercar: themagnificent M1. Created by BMW's motorsport division special as a homologation special forFIA Group 5 sports car racing, only around 450 examples rolled off the production line between 1978 and 1981, and enthusiasts have beenbegging BMW to build a successorever since.

Sadly, BMW has no plans to revive the M1, but an original 1980 example is currently listed for sale on Bring a Trailer, so this could be a rare opportunity to own BMW's first and only supercar.

这个特殊的M1 was built in August 1980 and was delivered to Beckingen, Germany. It was later moved to the UK before being imported to the US in 2001 by the current seller. The M1 is finished in red over a black upholstery. Under the hood is a fuel-injected 3,453cc M88/1 inline-six paired with a ZF five-speed manual transaxle. The M1 also comes with a host of extra equipment including a limited-slip differential, ventilated disc brakes, staggered-width Campagnolo alloy wheels, a Stebro muffler, and a custom-made twin-disc clutch.

For its age, this is a relatively low-mileage example with only 27,000 miles on the clock, half of which were added by the current owner in track days and driving events.

It's nice to know this M1 was actually driven and hasn't spent years in storage gathering dust. The car has also won awards at Concours events, so you know it's been cared for.

To restore it to its former glory, the M1 was repainted in its original shade of red between 2015 and 2016 and looks like it just rolled out the factory as a result. An area of corrosion on the bottom inner frame of the right door was also repaired and a new windshield was installed. At the time of writing, the immaculate M1 has a current bid of $401,980. With 14 days still left, we're expecting the final selling price to be even higher. However, we would be surprised if it sells for more thanPaul Walker's BMW M1, which sold for $500,000 earlier this year.
