The First Ferrari 812 Competizione A In America Is Totally Bespoke

Special Editions /5 Comments

It belongs to avid Ferrari collector David Lee.

The firstFerrari 812 Competizione A(Aperta or "open") has finally landed on US soil. We get to see it delivered to David Lee, who posted a video on his YouTube channel to detail the spectacle. This is the same guy whobought a Ferrari 298 GTBand visited Jay Leno's Garage, but we remember him more for hismulti-year battle to get a La Ferrari Aperta.

However, this isn't a normal 812 Competizione A. Instead, this is one of the 100 units made in the "Cavalcade spec," exclusive to the folks who attended theFerrari Cavalcade Rallies. This is on top of the fact that the Maranello-based company is only making 599 units of this particular model, making it rare among rare cars.

So, what does one get with the Cavalcade package? For starters, a buyer gets to choose fivespecial color options. For Lee, he opted for the green-tinged Verde Volterra, which changes in hue depending on the light and viewing angle. Brown striping and exposed carbon fiber accents add more visual drama.

Lee also says it gets a different steering wheel with an updated design and uniquely styledmanettinodial, behind which the paddles are painted to match the body. The Alcantara seats on this Ferrari (trimmed using a new version of the fabric) also have a unique design and special materials are used for most interior surfaces. A plaque on the rear bulkhead shows Lee's attendance at the 2016 Venice Cavalcade.

In the video, the Ferrari collector took it for a short spin. While driving, he noted that therare and expensive Ferrari F12tdf, which preceded the 812 Competizione, was only offered in coupe form.

Lee appreciated that this model gets an open-top variant since it makes for great warm-weather driving, and one can hear the 6.5-liter V12 engine a little bit better, especially since the rear windows can be operated independently to strike a balance between aural drama and maintaining your hairdo.

While he didn't give it the beans as he was traveling on public roads and was still familiarizing himself with the car, there's no doubt that this open-top Italian exotic is a beast. At maximum, it can deliver 819 horsepower to its rear wheels.

Towards the end of the video, the collector says that this vehicle is the start of his "green" collection. Lee, after all, likes to color code his Ferraris, and with that said, his upcomingSF90 XX Spidermight also be donning a similar shade.
