Teaser: 2012 Honda CR-V Concept

Honda reveals photos of the 2012 CR-V Concept, giving a clear preview of the upcoming redesign that may premiere at the LA Auto Show this November.

Honda seems to be intent on creating some hype for the next generation CR-V small SUV, as they've just released this new image of the 2012 Honda CR-V Concept. The fourth-generation CR-V will incorporate much of the concept's overall styling. What we can make out from the photo here is a prominent front skid plate, smoked-out headlights, black lower trim that looks very shiny and larger wheels. Under the hood, reports indicate that Honda will not make any major changes to last year's model.

We can most likely expect a 2.4-liter inline four that will knock out 180 horses. Unlike last year's CR-V, which had a five-speed automatic transmission, the 2012 model will be getting an upgrade to a six-speed unit. If Honda goes in this direction, you can expect a decent improvement in fuel efficiency, with the current CR-V managing 21 mpg city/28 highway. Front-wheel-drive will remain standard and all-wheel-drive will be optional. The CR-V has always been a strong seller for the Japanese automaker as they've sold up to 200,000 units yearly in the past.

No word yet on when Honda plans to unveil the production-ready 2012 CR-V, but our best guess will be for the LA Auto Show in November.
