This continuation model screams and runs just like it were the 60s

The Shelby Cobra is regarded as one of the most iconic and desirable American muscle cars ever produced. While the Cobra is no longer being produced, companies likeSuperformance keep the nameplate alive by creatinglicensed continuation models.

With Superformance giving its special take on the legendary Cobra, we see different versions of the nameplate, includingelectric resto-mods. What we have here today, courtesy ofAutotopiaLA, is one of the most insane examples of what Superformance can do.

In the video, Sean fromAutotopiaLAvisited Vinny Giglio ofVinGIGGSto feature one of Superformance's decked-out continuation models, the MKIII-R Cobra with a 5.2-liter Aluminator engine.

Just like whenrevealed in 2020, the Superformance MKIII-R Cobra stands out with its eye-catching Liquid Blue color, similar to the Ford GT's shade, complemented by carbon flash and black accents. It also comes equipped with Wilwood brakes, plus a wheel and tire setup consisting of 275/35/18 front and wide 335/30/18 rear tires.

For those wishing to squeeze more horsepower from aMustang, the Aluminator engine under its hood is also available as a crate engine throughFord Performancewith a retail price of $26,495. The power plant is rated to have 580 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque straight out of the factory, but Vinny mentioned that on the dyno, 525 hp is the more realistic number. The car also features a Tremec TKX five-speed transmission.

Those numbers might sound conservative to some, but it's at least more powerful than theCobra Dragonsnake continuation carsannounced by Shelby American.

This particular Superperformance MKIII-R Cobra removes certain parts from the stock version. The omission of side pipes and a roll bar gives it a sleeker look, while sacrificing a heat shield may result in some discomfort. These deliberate choices aim to enhance the Cobra's driving dynamics.

AC has just announced an all-new Cobra Roadster, but it's delightful to know that there are still brands that keep the original MKIII alive.
