Is Porsche developing an 800-hp super SUV?

Last year, Porsche joined the coupe SUV craze with the launch of the Cayenne Coupe to challenge the likes of theBMW X6andMercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. Topping the range is thePorsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe, which packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 541 horsepower and 567 lb-ft of torque, while the Turbo S E-Hybrid version increases the output to 670 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque.

With this setup, the stylish SUV will hit 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds. That's fast enough for most people, but our spies have caught Porsche testing an even hotter version of the Cayenne Coupe Turbo.

While it looks like an ordinary Cayenne Coupe at first glance, the two centrally-mounted exhaust pipes indicate we're looking at a new hotter version of the Cayenne Coupe Turbo. We got our first look at the performance-focused Cayenne Coupe Turbo last November when a prototype was spotted parked up, and now cold weather testing has begun. While a name for the mystery model hasn't been confirmed, our sources suggest it will be called the Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT. At this point, powertrain details are a mystery.

However, reports have suggested Porsche is cooking up a hardcore version of thePanamera Turbo S E-Hybrid called the Lionwith more power and less weight to set a new Nurburgring lap record. According to reports, the track-focused Panamera is based on the regular Turbo model and packs at least 750 hp or possibly as much as 820 hp.

We're keeping our fingers crossed that this setup carries over to the Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT to create an 800-hp super SUV more powerful than theLamborghini Urus. As well as more power, we're also expecting the Cayenne Coupe GT to feature some styling changes as well as upgraded brakes and suspension to make it more track-focused.
