迈巴赫削弱了宾利Bentayga price, but will monied customers care?

Mercedes-Benz has revealed local pricing for the newMaybach EQS 680 SUV, the sub-brand'sfirst-ever fully electric offering.

The ultra-luxury SUV's price starts at $179,900 (excl. $1,150 destination fees), which is not as expensive as we had anticipated. Of course, optional packages can push the price beyond the $200,000 mark, but the EQS 680 SUV receives an impressive amount of standard equipment.

This includes 21-inch wheels, air suspension with adaptive damping, and the MBUX Hyperscreen, which comprises three separate screens - a 17.7-inch central display, a 12.3-inch passenger display, and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster. Rear passengers aren't left out, as the second row is kitted out withtwo11.6-inch entertainment screens affixed to the front seat backrests.

The incredible Burmester 4D Sound System with Dolby Atmos forms part of the package, as does a 360-degree camera with Parktronic and a Fingerprint Scanner for MBUX profile activation. Naturally, LED lights have been specified all around, with the headlights benefitting from Mercedes' Digital Light system.

The Executive Rear Seat Package Plus is a no-cost extra. However, to enjoy the luxuries that come with this, buyers have to forgo a fifth passenger seat for a four-seat layout. If you seldom carry additional passengers, this sounds like the way to go, as the package includes folding rear tables, heated armrests for rear occupants, and heated/cooled cupholders.

If you want the ultimate Maybach EQS SUV experience, opt for the $25,000 Maybach Night Series Design Package. This includes the Executive Rear Seat Package Plus and introduces several aesthetic upgrades, such as 21-inch Night Series wheels with the Maybach Pattern, Black Pearl Nappa leather, dark chrome exterior trim, Herringbone Pattern Dark Walnut Wood, and even Rose Gold pins in the headlights.

Choosing this raises the price to $204,900, but we're guessingmore traditional buyerswill avoid this conspicuous package in favor of something more demure. Like the regular EQS SUV, the Maybach variant will beproduced at the Tuscaloosa plant.

Two-tone color options include Cirrus Silver/Obsidian Black, Manufaktur Kalahari Gold and Sonoran Brown/Onyx Black, Cirrus Silver/Nautical Blue, and Obsidian Black/Selenite Grey. The EQS 680 SUV gains motivation from two permanently excited synchronous motors that produce 649 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque together. Zero to 60 mph takes just 4.1 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 130 mph.

Mercedes-Maybach's EQS SUV is in a class of its own, as there are currently no ultra-luxury electric SUVs on the market. The closest rival we can think of isthe upcoming Escalade IQ, but it isn't on the same level as the Maybach. Instead, we have to look at the Bentayga Hybrid, which pairs a plug-in hybrid system with a turbocharged V6 engine. Priced around the $200,000 mark, the Bentley boasts a more exclusive badge and customization options, but it's down on power compared to its German rival.

If you're interested in the EQS 680 SUV, the uber-posh EV can now be ordered through your local Mercedes dealer.
