The production version of the electric G-Class is nearing production.

Mercedes-Benz is making good progress with the all-electric G-Class, known as theMercedes EQG. The battery-powered SUV was recently spotted testing on German roads, caught by car paparazzowalkoARTvideos.

The video reveals the EQG covered in a distinctive electric-themed blue camouflage, showcasing its unique identity from the other wrapped prototypes typically seen in the area. The overall design remains largely unchanged from the iconic boxy shape of the G-Wagen, and EQG is expected to mirror theconcept unveiled in 2021.

Expected design elements include the famous round LED daytime running lights, a closed-off grille, extended fenders, the rear lights' position, and the spare wheel's squircle casing.

We have yet to see an official image of the EQG's cabin, butrecent spy shotsreveal a non-gimmicky layout, which means it will retain the non-electric G-Class interior design. We can see a new steering wheel with capacitive buttons and a screen in front of the driver, but these features might also be part of an upcoming G-Class facelift. It doesn't have the臭名昭著的Hyperscreen, but you can be sure it will come standard with all the latest MBUX functionality.

In terms of specifications, we know a few details about the forthcoming EQG based on various reports and recent sightings. It will retain the G-Class's ladder frame chassis and will be equipped with four electric motors, each powering an individual wheel. Although the power and torque figures remain under wraps, the EQG's quad-motor setup is expected to churn out a combined output of around 600 to 670 horsepower.

The exact battery details are still unconfirmed, but the EQG is rumored to offer a range of over 310 miles on a full charge. Speculations suggest that the EQG's battery pack will incorporate a 108-kilowatt-hour pack, similar to the one in the Mercedes EQS SUV. However, the EQG is expected to use arevolutionary silicon anode chemistry technologythat promises a 20% increase in range, enhanced charging speeds, and a more sustainable approach to production.

We have to say, it's quite disconcerting watching a G-Class drive by without the telltale sound of a V8 engine. An all-electric off-roader isa sensational idea, but a silent G is quite eerie.

The Mercedes-Benz EQG is expected to debut by the end of the year or within the next year, either as a 2024 or 2025 model.
