米ercedes' latest drop top is here, and it already looks better than the E-Class Coupe.

In the space of a year, we've seen梅赛德斯-奔驰(mercedes - benz)改革entire E-Class range, from the sleek sedan to therather pointless coupe. Now, the German manufacturer has revealed the latest member of the E-Class family. Meet the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet, which will make its debut at Geneva next week alongside severalspecial edition modelsand of course thegrandiose Maybach G650 Landaulet, which is also technically a convertible.

The E-Class Cabriolet, on the other hand, is a more traditionally refined Mercedes. As we suspected, it looks near-identical to the E-Class Coupe, but loses its strange split rear window which instantly makes the Cabriolet a marked improvement in the looks department. Of course, the E-Class Cabriolet's party piece is its retractable fabric roof available in brown, blue, red or black, which can fold up and down in 20 seconds while driving at speeds up to 30 mph. It's not just sunny days where you can enjoy its open-top either, as an Aircap electric draught-stop system and Airscarf neck-level heating can be fitted as optional extras.

These systems will deflect wind and circulate warm air around the neck area, should you want to drive with the roof down in cold temperatures. Compared to the previous E-Class Cabriolet, this new drop-top is 190 inches longer and 73.2 inches wider, resulting in increased interior space to give rear passengers an extra four inches of legroom. For the first time, the Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet will be available in all-wheel drive as well as rear-wheel drive. The North American model will be fitted with a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine mated to a 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission, which produces 329 hp in the E-Class Coupe, but Mercedes hasn't revealed any other options yet.

No doubt we'll see an AMG performance variant of the E-Class Cabriolet later down the line too. Three suspension options are available "designed to offer agile driving pleasure as well as a highly comfortable ride." As standard, the E-Class Cabriolet features comfort-tuned Direct Control suspension with an amplitude-dependent damping system, which is 15 millimetres lower than the sedan. Dynamic Body Control suspension with adjustable damping is also available as an optional extra. Using the Dynamic Select system, the driver can adjust the damping dynamics, choosing between Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes.

As with the E-Class sedan, the Cabriolet can also be fitted with Air Body Control multi-chamber air suspension, allowing the driver to control the hardness of the suspension in three stages. With this system, occupants can "enjoy soft basic suspension, along with the secure feeling of good handling stability at higher speeds." Inside, you'll find the usual array of luxuries included in E-Class models, from a plush 12.3-inch display to LED ambient lighting with as many as 64 different color options, as well as an overwhelming choice of colors for the leather and interior trim. Prices haven't been announced yet, but the new E-Class Cabriolet will go on sale in the US by the end of the year.
