Listen To The Flat-Six Engine Of Porsche 911 GT3 R Explode Into Life

Teaser /Comments

Porsche's latest teaser has certainly whet our appetites.

Ahead of its official debut, Porsche Motorsport has taken to Twitter with a delightful teaser, demonstrating the 911 GT3 R's incredible exhaust note. The quick five-second video shows the racer set off at spectacular speed, singing as only a well-sorted flat-six can. The caption piques our interests further, reading "The next-generation Porsche 911 GT3 R comes alive. How do you like the sound of the ?-liter flat-six engine?"

Not much is known regarding technical details, but we expect Zuffenhausen has reworked the engine found in the911 GT3to provide more power and torque. However, the teaser gives us reason to believe that Porsche has increased the displacement of the six-pot and thoroughly reworked the internals for motorsport use. The newcomer replaces the 991.2-based variantwhich debuted in 2019.

The previous generation was tailored for hardcore track use, with Porsche engineers tuning the rear-mounted powerplant to deliver 550 horsepower and a wider rev range. We anticipate the newcomer to receive a similar treatment. We don't expect a massive jump in power, but there's a possibility the upcoming GT3 R could pack as much as 600 hp. For reference, the road-going GT3 R produces 502 hp.

在造型方面,赛车特别differs slightly from lesser 911s. It's notably lower and wider thanks to the aerodynamically enhanced bodywork; you can't miss the front splitter or the rear diffuser. The rear wing is quite spectacular, but it's not as eye-catching as the item affixed to theupcoming GT3 RS's derriere. These bits aren't just for show - they're there to keep the road-going missilefirmly planted on the road.

Rumored to arrive in 2023, the Porsche 911 GT3 R will take the battle toBMW's $530,000 M4 GT3. With 590 hp on tap, Munich's challenger looks every bit as menacing as the Porsche and should give the 911 a tough time in a variety of motorsport events in the coming year. We can't wait to see what the GT3 R looks like once it's adorned in racing livery, as previous models looked spectacular on the circuit.

While we wait for this track-only monster to debut, at least we have the GT3 RS to look forward to. The outgoing model was a thrilling experience. With pin-sharp handling and an unforgiving demeanor, it certainly wasn't for the faint-hearted. We expect more of the same from the 992 generation, which recentlyshowed off its dynamic abilitiesat the Nurburgring.
