Land Rover Announces Major 2021 And 2022 Model Year Updates

Get ready for a new V8 Defender and many luxurious special editions.

For effortless off-roading while nestled in a cocoon of luxury, you can hardly do better than a Land Rover. Although supply-chain issues mean that plug-in hybrid variants of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sportwon't be returningfor 2022, the Land Rover family still provides plenty of choices, including the newDefender V8. The company has just revealed the 2021 and 2022 model year updates for its entire lineup. As there are many individual changes for each model, we'll stick to the highlights for the models that span the extensive Range Rover, Discovery, andDefenderfamilies.

One of the few changes that will apply to every 2021/2022 Land Rover is the standard fitment of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. Starting with the 2022Range Rover Evoque, this stylish SUV now comes in a new HST guise with a 296-horsepower mild hybrid powertrain, along with sporty touches like 20-inch gloss black wheels and red brake calipers. All Evoques now get heated front seats, a power tailgate, and wireless charging as standard. Pricing begins at $43,775 for the Evoque S with its 246-hp four-cylinder engine and goes up to $53,900 for the new HST.

The 2021Range Rover Velarhas a more extensive list of enhancements. A 3.0-liter mild hybrid six-cylinder powertrain with either 335 hp or 395 hp has been introduced. All Velars now have a new surround-view camera system, while the Pivi Pro infotainment system boasts updated electrical architecture and two 10-inch touchscreens. There is also a new steering wheel. Pricing ranges from $56,900 for the Velar S to $76,900 for the Velar R-Dynamic HSE with the 395-hp powertrain.

The 2022 Range Rover Sport gets new USB-C ports for occupants in the second row and the 398-hp plug-in hybrid falls away, but otherwise, this model is unchanged. Pricing ranges from $69,500 for the SE to $130,000 for the SVR Carbon Edition, the same as for the 2021 model.

The 2021 Range Rover maintains its engine lineup but gets new cabin air ionization and new SVAutobiography Ultimate editions. Further choice comes via new HSE Westminster and SVAutobiography Dynamic Black Editions along with the Autobiography Fifty Edition. The latter will be limited to just 1,970 units globally. A revised color palette applies. Prices range between $92,000 and a hefty $218,500 for the SVAutobiography Ultimate Edition when equipped with the long wheelbase.

The new Defender is one of the most exciting additions to the Land Rover family in recent years. The 2022 model is highlighted by a newly available 518-hp V8 supercharged engine which allows the Defender to hit 60 mph in under five seconds. There is a new V8 Carpathian Edition, the Defender 90 range has expanded with new trims, and a rugged Defender 110 XS Edition is new. Pricing ranges between $47,700 and $107,200 for the Defender 110 V8 Carpathian Edition. The most affordable V8, the Defender 90 V8, will go for $97,200.

A specific on-sale date for the various models was not announced but we expect them to hit showrooms imminently.
