Lamborghini's New Hypercar Will Debut This Week

It will be "the last of its kind."

Lamborghini will officially end one era this week just before it begins a new one. The Italian automaker has officially announced it will debut its "newest creation" on Wednesday, July 7. Details are being kept under wraps with the sole exception of the teaser image shown below.

The two vehicles appear to be identical and, upon closer inspection of their details such as the headlights, side mirrors, and side vents, this new model isalmost certainly Aventador-based. The headlight signature, for example, is identical to that of the current V12 model. But there's another significant clue indicating itsAventadorroots; Lamborghini states it considers the hypercar to be "the last of its kind."

To us, that means it'll be powered by the naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12. Whether it'll have some sort of electrification is uncertain but we kind of doubt it. There's a very high likelihood this is the final iteration of the aging Aventador before it is retired. It was launched back in early 2011.

Currently, the most powerful road-going Aventador is the SVJ with produces a maximum of 760 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque. At launch, the scissor-doored raging bull had 690 hp and 509 lb-ft. There's probably not much more Lamborghini can do with the car, power and performance-wise, and, hopefully, it'll be going out with a bang.

Not long ago, there were was a rumor Lamborghini was planning anAventador-based Countach homagesimilar to 2016's Miura homage. We'll find out this week whether that's coming to fruition or not, but we have a gut feeling the final Aventador will be a celebration of all things Aventador. It's been a hugely successful model for the company over the years and its upcoming successor is guaranteed to incorporate the use of electrification that'll work in conjunction with a V12. TheLamborghini Sianhybrid was sort of an early technological preview of what's to come.

In any case, this is going to be a big week for Lamborghini and we highly suggest you tune in this Wednesday at 12 pm CEST.
