Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Will Let Owners Go Supersonic

The high-performance EV is shaping up to be seriously impressive.

一个head of next month's reveal at theGoodwood Festival of Speed, Hyundai has teased itsIoniq 5 Nelectric performance car again, this time at the Nurburgring.

Over the years, Hyundai has honed several N performance vehicles at the Green Hell. The hardcore Ioniq 5 is no different but brings a new set of challenges Hyundai needed to overcome. As an EV, the sportiestIoniq 5需要更严格的热管理相比,to ICE-powered vehicles. To work around this, Hyundai has had to improve cooling using new software and updated hardware.

We can see a larger air intake up front, but the automaker has also added an enhanced motor oil cooler and battery chiller. N Battery Preconditioning and N Race serve as the Ioniq 5 N's heat management programs on the software side.

N Battery Preconditioning can set the cells to their most efficient temperature. There are two modes to choose from: Drag mode and Track mode. The former optimizes the battery for immediate maximum power, while the latter conditions it to its lowest possible temperature to withstand multiple laps at a time.

N Race also has two settings. Sprint is the default setting and provides the driver with full power when needed. Endurance increases the Ioniq 5 N's range when on track. This is done by limiting sudden power spikes, which slows the battery temperature's build-up. In the video above, we can see that the Hyundai's battery temperature sits at just 107.6 degrees Fahrenheit, despite being thrashed at high speeds.

But what is a high-performance car without strong brakes? Hyundai hasn't just slapped on big discs and called it a day, developing a unique regenerative braking system specifically for the Ioniq 5 N.

Hyundai says the system offers up to 0.6g of braking force through regenerative braking alone - an industry-leading figure. The regen system works even when ABS is activated, with a maximum of 0.2g braking force. The hydraulic brake system makes use of 15.7-inch discs that have been designed for maximum cooling. Thanks to the unique regenerative braking system, the disc brakes have an increased lifespan compared to gas-powered rivals.

We can also hear the N Active Sound+artificial noise generatorin action. While it's synthetic, there's no denying that it sounds rather good and lends the performance EV plenty of character. There are three distinct sounds: Ignition, Evolution, and Supersonic.

Ignition is inspired by the characteristic sound of Hyundai N's gasoline-powered offerings, repletewith characteristic pops and bangs.

Evolution is an N-exclusive sound inspired by the N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo andRN22e conceptcars. This is simply described as an electronic noise and probably pipes a futuristic sound into the cabin. Finally, we have Supersonic, which takes inspiration from fighter jets. Hyundai says the owner can customize all these sounds. The system uses 10 speakers, with eight in the cabin and two on the exterior.

N Active Sound+ operates in conjunction with the N e-Shift,which simulates an eight-speed DCT. It's rather clever and acts like a conventional transmission by controlling the torque output. When the driver shifts gear, the N e-Shift system sends a jolt through the system for a more authentic feel.

Hyundai says the idea is to make drivers of combustion-engined cars feel more comfortable behind the wheel and create an experience similar to ICE vehicles.

The Ioniq 5 N has covered 6,200 miles at the iconic Nordschleife circuit during the development process. Before the vehicle heads to production, Hyundai will put the performance EV through an additional 6,200-mile durability test to ensure the Ioniq 5 N is as durable as possible.

The Korean brand is yet to share any performance figures, but company officials have suggested as much as 620 horsepower. This is yet to be finalized, though. Regardless of the final output, the Ioniq 5 N will be among the most exciting EVs ever to grace our roads.

一个s mentioned, the latest N performance product will steal the show at next month's Goodwood Festival of Speed. Not only is it Hyundai N's first time participating, but an array of N-branded vehicles will participate in the hill climb, including the N Vision 74 -Hyundai's hydrogen-powered, retro-inspired concept car.
