Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Sheds Camo To Expose Far More Aggressive Bodywork

Spy Shots /8 Comments

Like other Ns, this Hyundai won't be confused for a non-performance model.

We're getting closer and closer to the reveal of theHyundai Ioniq 5 Nat this month's Goodwood Festival of Speed, and we now have a fresh selection of spy shots that reveal a little more of its aggressive bodywork. In case you forgot, this is the car that will rewrite the performance rulebook for the Korean automaker, with reports suggesting an output of around 600 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of about 3.4 seconds.

Lastteased by the automaker at the Nurburgring, the Ioniq 5 N has, this time, been captured with less camo covering its bumpers and roof. In front, we can see a far more aggressive bumper treatment with all manner of gaping intakes and angular cut-outs, along with a more prominent splitter. Besides the familiar rectangular-shaped daytime running lights, it makes the regular Ioniq 5 look much tamer.

The camo that has been stripped from the roof and flush-fitting door handles confirm that therally-inspired Ioniq 5 Nwill be available in the signature Performance Blue paintwork that is also available on theElantra N. We expect that the latter's red striping on lower parts of the body will also find its way onto the Ioniq 5 N.

A seriously sporty wheel design is used on this test mule, and the design looks good enough to be offered on the production model. The wheels are wrapped in low-profile rubber, and we can also see brake calipers that are, unusually, only finished in bright red at the back, not in front. Perhaps the engineers were testing various calipers.

Additional vents have been placed just ahead of the rear wheels, and the rear of the Ioniq 5 N seems to have a large roof-mounted spoiler with an unusual dipped section in the middle.

Lower down, there are more aerodynamic tweaks, with cutouts in the bumper with a boomerang shape. As expected for a performance halo model, there is a large diffuser with a glossy black finish. A more practical addition is a rear wiper which is reportedly also coming to other Ioniq 5s.

Overall, it looks like the Ioniq 5 N will have the bold styling to back up its considerable firepower. With dual motors and all-wheel drive, it won't lack grip, but Hyundai has gone all-out to endow this car with an engaging driving experience.

That includes the N Drift Optimizer to make controlled power slides possible, and N Torque Distribution will manage torque between each axle. Artificial noisewill be piped into the cabin, and the N e-Shift system will simulate the effect of a conventional dual-clutch transmission. Finally, an advanced heat management system for the motors and battery will allow the Ioniq 5 N to be thrashed on the track without needing a long break between laps to cool down.
