Here's Proof Porsche Fans Love Hybrids

Almost a quarter of Porsche cars sold in Germany are PHEVs.

Like many automakers, Porsche has anambitious electrification strategyto reduce emissions and meet tighter regulations. By 2025, the German automaker expects half of its sales to be electrified or fully electric cars. And judging from registration data obtained by InsideEVs, Porsche is on track to achieve that goal.

In Porsche's home market in Germany, battery-electric and plug-in-hybrid cars represented nearly a quarter of Porsche's sales in January and February this year. In January, 485 out of the 2,012 cars Porsche sold in Germany were electrified, with 167 battery-electric cars and 318 plug-in hybrids making up 24.1 percent of sales.

In February, Porsche sold 394 electrified vehicles, 195 of which were battery-electric and 199 were plug-in hybrids. This represented 22.7 percent out of the 1,734 cars sold that month. In the first two months of 2020, Porsche sold 879 electrified cars, which is 23.5 percent of Porsche's total sales in Germany.

ThePorsche Panamera E-Hybridwas the most popular Panamera variant this year. In Germany, more than half of Panameras sold were plug-in hybrids - 146 to be precise, making up 56 percent of the 259 Panameras Porsche sold. As for thePorsche Cayenne, 368 out of 854 cars sold in Germany in January and February were plug-in hybrids, representing 43 percent of Cayenne sales in Porsche's home market.

ThePorsche Taycanhas also had a very strong start since nearly one in ten cars sold in Germany so far this year was fully electric, despite the Taycan's high asking price. According to Porsche, more than 15,000 customers have already signed up to buy a Taycan.

Porsche's electric sales should also get a big boost when the全电动Macan到来since the combustion version is Porsche's best selling model. Reports claim the electric Macan will utilize the same platform as the Taycan, while the most powerful variant is expected to pack around 700 hp and 750 lb-ft of torque. Initially, the electric Macan will be sold alongside the combustion version when it arrives for the 2022 or 2023 model year.
